How well can you make a live rear axle set up handle? I know that's kind of an ambiguious question, but those of you who autocross don't get the crap kicked out of you due to suspension shortcommings do you?

Live rear axles are for the drag strip and off road only. Anything else would be uncivilized.

it all depends on the circumstances. Live axles have an alignment advantage, in that there is no camber loss. But there are short comings. Like anything else there are gives and takes. To answer the question, yes a live axle can handle very well. Is IRS better, in some ways, yes, in some ways no. Road conditions also play a big part. On a VERY smooth surface, the IRS advantage is much less, if any. Add some bumps into the picture and the unsprung weight advantage, and the ability of the rear wheels to move in relation to each other, makes IRS a clear winner.

I know I didn't really answer the question. But, so many variables, it is hard to answer.

Heck Justin, let me take you for a ride in my car sometime. Wink
