New water pump on my NEW MOTOR went out tonight. Evil or Very Mad After running a couple of errands, I came home and parked in the driveway and noticed antifreeze leaking from under the car. Looks like I got a defective water pump from the parts store. I'm going to take the old one of the same brand (I still have it) back to the parts store and get an exchange. Looks like I'll be busy for a while tomorrow.

That sucks! You got all the hose clamps snug on there?

All hoses are tight. Appears to be leaking from the bearing, there is water sitting on the timing indicator just below water pump shaft. It did make quite a bit of noise earlier, sounded like a previous water pump that wore out. Anyhow, I already have a replacement ($0) and will be busy first thing tomorrow.

I think what happened was the bolts on the pulley only got a little more than snugged. I was missing one and two of the other three were finger tight. Oversight on all involved.

Replacement water pump is in, drove around the block with no funny sounds or apparent leaks Smile

I'm going to replace the tensioner pulley also, I heard that a worn one can damage the seal on the water pump.
