not to quote "Waiting," but the GTO Goat is dead.
Published today in the Wheels section of the PI, the GTO has been cancelled by GM due to "ineffective styling and poor sales," production of the Minaro will continue though to a later date. The LAST gto's will see the lots in June.
Also meaning that I will have to go with my dad to the South Seattle Dealer Auto Auction and pick up one of these for 16 grand.
I can't say I was a fan of this recreation, but I want its power plant. _________________

yes but that does clear the way for a pontiac version of the camaro concept (aka firebird) no? This goat never really did it for me anyway.
Brandon was chatting about that last night. Lots of rumors on the internet anyway.

They should have brought the Vauxhall version of the Manaro over here. It looks 300 times better than the GTO. Really small detailing diffrences, but I think the over-all is tons better.
For refrence.

Basically getting rid of the fugly pontiac grille. It took them almost ten years to get rid of putting 2-3" thick ribbed body cladding down the side of all their cars, how long will that grille last? |

Indeed it does. The new GTO was yet another attempt by Detroit to take a once excellent automobile, and recreate it into a box, i.e. Mustang, Charger, Camaro concept, ect. |

most GTO owners I know of have all swapped from the pontiac fascia to either the original Monaro (hey look, a properly spelled version!) or the vauxhall, but one figures, they've got the means I suppose.
I don't much care either way, I've looked at a few of the 04's but I'm leary of buying a used one... _________________

Are they going to build the 5th gen? Have they said for sure? _________________ "Horse power is how fast you hit the wall, Torque is how far you take the wall with you."

According to a recent interview of Bob Lutz....
Lutz has told AutoWeek that reports of the rear-wheel-drive coupe’s death were premature and the next-generation GTO’s development program was only really placed on hold, and—after some internal reorganization to ensure profitability targets can be met—it is now back on
"The reason we said it was canceled is because that way our people would put their pencils down, In GM if you say something is deferred, then people keep working on it. We really needed to get that message through to everybody."
Lutz confirmed that the GTO was “only ever off for two months, but that break has enabled us to get a more feasible program up."
Contrary to rumors, however, Lutz said General Motors is not planning to revive the Pontiac Firebird. “No, that’s not something we are planning. We are not going to do that car,” he said

the firebird name will be slapped onto a revised version of the solstice with some new body parts and an LS2/T56 already done for us... for 45k
and monkies are just going to fly right out of my ass at any given point too, right?
they'll do something with it later I'm sure...
now where are those GNX or Chevelle Zeta prototype pictures that were floating around awhile back? _________________

My theory is that we'll get a Pontiac badged Camaro here in Canada. Certainly wouldn't be the first time we've had our own Pontiacs
Acadian (Nova & Chevette)
Tempest (Corsica)
Firefly (Sprint/Metro)
Beaumont (Chevelle)
Pursuit (Cobalt)
Wave (Aveo)
But then, if the GTO is built in the US there's a better chance we'd get that |

I'm just glad to see they're dropping the current GTO model. That thing is as overweight as it is ugly. |

If I had the money, I'd much prefer an 02 SS or WS6 for around 15K than a slightly newer, much heavier GTO for 30K. |

heres what it boils down to...
02 SS is around 3400, GTO is 3700
345hp vs. 400hp
340tq vs. 400tq
around 15k nets you a minimal 40k miles, no warranty, and depending, you won't even get the 35th package (camaro) or say... the revised LS6 version of the oil problem the LS1's had vs. 25k for 05 GTO (used) with about 5-15k miles, warranty, all leather, etc etc etc.
don't get me wrong I love the Camaro, and I am searching for an SS at the moment, but what it comes down to is this:
Is the F-body going to be more problematic in the long run than the GTO?
I certainly don't want an F-Body with 40k+ on it without the SFC's, and I don't want somebodies beaten to shizzle F-Body either... I'm being extremely picky with the car I go for and I'm not going to just settle for something when I know if I wait what I want will come.
but that GTO is toying with me for a lot of reasons.
can't beat the power nor the ammenities it offers.
not to mention, the clutch on the GTO is MUCH MUCH better, the transmission is stronger overall, and it, unfortunately, turns better.
LS1 F-Bodies got the shizzle end of the stick with clutches unfortunately, and to upgrade to match what the GTO has stock is about $750 _________________
