I thought Mike would enjoy seeing that he not the only one who gets good use out of the AAA or Road Side Assistance programs.

Long story short, the alternator bracket came off the head, meaning I lost the serp belt, and couldn't put a new one on. (Paul, this the the OTHER bracket from the one that came off last year. I have bad luck with these brackets).

that sucks dude. did the accessory bracket stud come out of the block or did the nut come off the stud? did the alternator completly fall out of the car? or did it just fall out of its place and smash into all your other accesorys? glad to see you made it home. Shocked

the whole bracket came off, it sheered the bolts off. So I've got to get in there with a drill and extractor set, and get what is left out.

ACK! Scared me when I first saw the pics because I couldn't tell if there was damage or not. Sucks but at least this is a quick repair with no permanent damage.

Well, it may or may not be quick. It all depends on if the broken bolts want to come back out of the head without issue. I also need to see if the bracket is broken. I'm thinking it is about time to convert to V-belt, this is the 2nd time I have been towed home, because of serp belt issues.

Well sorry to hear this happened to you.

Be sure and center punch the bolts so the drill bit doesn't walk off to the side, and if the bolts aren't seized in the head, a left hand drill bit just might walk them out without too much trouble.

Yeah, I was able to get the one out last time, with a reverse drill bit. Hopefully that will work again. I'm also going to borrow Barts air-drill, as it goes a little slower, and is easier to control slowly then my electric (and it is a 90*, so I may be able to fit in there without pulling the radiator.

What worries me the most, is trying to find a new bracket, if the braket is broken.

Just get it welded again.

I'm thinking it may be time to upgrade to grade 8 hardware.

Just goes to show you what all those little intricut bars and brackets for the serp setup do.... that aren't there after A/C delete and headers. lol

So John.... what were you uh.... doing when this happened? Eh?

Driving home on i84, it just let go.

I'm thinking v-belt is the best perminant option. I need to see what all I have. IIRC I have the alternator bracket, PS brackets, crank pully, and a water pump (not sure of the condition of the pump though).

Damn, shitty luck John.

I was in Portland this morning on the 205 and on I-84. If I would have seen you on the side of the road I would have stopped and helped.
