i have a 3.27 posi 9bolt disc brake rear end sitting in my garage itching to get on my GTA. the GTA of course originaly left the factory with this same setup (posi/disc/9bolt/3.27) it has a temporary on there now (posi/drum/10bolt/2.72). i want to upgrade the rear brakes before i slap it on. right now it needs new discs and has both stock calipers. i have been searching through old posts on TGOs brake board but finding details is always dificult.
so hear it is: what should i do? i want good stoping power. i want no brake fade. i am prepared to upgrade to an aftermarket proportioning valve. so i want your opinions. i would prefer not to spend more then $300.
EDIT: ok after more reading i think i have decided to uprade to 1LE brakes. it appears it is gonna cost my like $500+... but i have no rear brakes now.. so it seems worth it. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

1LE's? Aren't the 1LE rears just standard pbr calipers (the same ones used on 89-92 fcars and similar to the 94-97 fcars?) If so I think I've heard of people adapting the standard PBR calipers to the 9bolt. Just get some good blanks and some nice pads. I've had good luck with bendix titaniums. Almost no dust and little to no brake fade. _________________

Blanks?
so are you saying i could use the same carrier and rotor? just change to the newer style calipers? sounds cheap and easy. |

thanks for those links. the only reason i am not doing "LS1" (98+ fbody) brakes are they they will not clear ANY 15" wheels or most stock 16" wheels. and i have 15" now and the only change i would make would be to stock 16"... so they are wheel prohibative.
the 1LE is still going to have a few hoops... backing plates alone are going to cost me $200 for the 9bolt. |
