I've got various problems with my transmission right now (I.E. when I shift it up into Park it stays in reverse even if I go under the car and move the arm up all the way for it) but I'd like to figure this one out first...

I'll just be general. What can cause a hard shift into gear (like from neutral to drive it jumps and chirps the tires)?

I've heard (and am not sure if all are true or not)

high idle
TV cable not set correctly
TCC not unlocking
timing advanced too far
wrong fluid type in trans.

Basically I've got an idea that it's my TV cable, and plan to get a new one from GM (since I cant seem to find one in any of the junkyards for a CCC-Qjet to a 700R4) when I get the money... but just want to make sure I know all of what it could be before I just start "replacing things" (I know my TV cable is stretched a little bit, so I'm replacing it anyways in hope it'll fix the problem).

Yes and no. I can adjust it "manually", but the little gadget GM made to "automatically" adjust TV cable tension (or whatever it does Confused

) doesnt work right anymore. It pulls the thing out when you push down on the tang, but it wont retract upon it's own accord anymore.

I have fiddled with it, trying to get it as loose as I can, and as tight as I can, and there is a slight difference in how much it chirps into gear between the two, but I dont know... Confused

Fiddled with it some more. It's definetly my TV cable out of whack.

If you've never had the transmission fluid flushed, I'd have that done (preventative maintenance anyways).

If your idle is high (which mine is as well) then that can cause it too.

I didnt realize I didnt detach my TV cable when I dropped my trans, and so I ended up stretching the cable a bit. I am going to order a new one on Friday. There's a write-up on TGO about how to adjust your TV cable. It never works right for me so I guess I'm just doing it wrong, so I'd hate to try and explain to you the wrong way to adjust it lol.
