For those who saw the error last night when trying to access the site. I did not see Jess online, so e-mailed our hosting service. They increased our availabe question amount for the SQL server from 10,000 to 50,000, that should keep that particular problem from happening again.

Thank you for contacting iPowerWeb Technical Support.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
We have increased the 'max_questions' limit to 50000 for your account and http://cascadecrew.org/phpBB2/index.php is working fine now.
Please check the same at your end.

Thought the geeks in here might be interested as to the cause, and resolution. _________________

So it's still not clear... was the limitation on the number of posts/threads on our bulletin board or was it the number of threads to the database (i.e. concurrent users querying)?
Based on your definition last night I thought that we were experiencing a denial of service attack.

| From my understanding, it is the number of SQL query's performed per HOUR. Basicly the phpbb software, was requesting information for SQL at a rate that execeded 10000 questions per hour, that limit was raised to 50000. They did indicated, that if we needed more that 50000 SQL questions per hour, we would have to upgrade our account. |

I have a hard time believing that we exceeded that threshold with the number of users that are normally online : shrug :

| It had nothing to do with users. It had to do with the number of database queries that were run in a given period of time. It may have been a bot of some sort, doing something in the background, who knows. |

users = execute queries. we are actually agreeing and you validated my point. highly unlikely that with the number of users that we typically have on the board that we would exceed that threshold.
a bot would make sense and relates back to the point that i had made about a DOS attack.
Thanks for working to get the boards back up

You should have devoted some time for you department at work, to look at the error, and explain why it happened. You have to have some SQL guy's around. |
