So, today my wife was taking my 91 RS to work, and the drivers t-top flew off on SR500 and someone ran it over and it shattered Sad So now I have no driver t-top and of course next few days are supposed to rain. WOOOOO. Aren't T-Tops wonderful?

That happened to me too!! I had my '78, and was bringing the car up from Alameda to Bremerton, and right outside of Vallejo, I'm doing about 70mph... WHAM!! Off it flew!! About 50' straight up!! Almost took out a Honda behind me! Laughing

The whole rest of the trip was very cold, even though it was in June! Took me about 3 weeks to find another one, luckily it didn't rain much though.

Laughing

Everyone talks about this happening.

How?!

Was it unlatched?

So your 91 must have lexan tops correct? Were you able to get the pieces for the lock/handle etc.?

The reason I ask is that one of my lexan tops cracked so i got a pair of glass tops and swapped my handles. I don't remember which side is the good one but both would keep the rain out. Let me know if you are interested and I will check when I get home tonight. I probably have the handles from the glass ones but IIRC they had smaller rods than the lexan.

Correct they are the lexan ones. I don't believe she got the handle pieces. Doesn't really matter as I don't have keys to the current ones. I'm thinking of headed out to the JY after she gets home and see if I can find some glass ones. Especially that sexy smoked glass t-tops. They just can only be from a 89+ i believe to get them to work with my car. I really dunno. I can try and backtrack and find out where my t-top flew off at and maybe get the pins and stuff but I don't know how good of a shape they are in.

As for how, I don't know if that one was latched or not. I didn't put it on, Tim did. But it was super hard to latch that side, Meaning full wieght against the handle to get it to close fully. Very tough, somethign was wrong with it.

Well I went to the JY on foster and found 2 mirrored glass ones from an 88. Ony difference appears to be the pins but they latch and stuff. the 91 pins had a springloaded sleeve over them. not entirely sure why though. Anyhow, they are wierd, when i latch them they bow a bit in the back. But would rather it leak a bit, then how much it'd leak if i didn't have the t-top on Wink

Something kind of like that happened to my buddies and I. We were moving an old celica from one house to another. The car didn't run. Rolled real nice though. So we hooked a rope to my buddies truck and started towing. We got to a large hill and at the bottom was the driveway so we just unhooked the celica and let my buddy drive jump in to steer and brake. Halfway down the hill doing 35-40 the hood literally shoots off the car and up about 45' in the air and then just floated down almost hitting the truck I was in. Laughing

haha when i bought my car i had the ignition hanging from the steering column because i had a key with the wrong cut and right vat so i put the key in and used a socket to turn the ignition deal on, also no door keys and broken hatch motor. AND the car leaked like a SOB

now i have ignion installed with correct key and vat, keys for t-tops, rear storage area, and both doors. i fixed the trunk hatch motor. i have fixed all the leaks except one (just need to get the time) that only leaks in heavy rain overnight or carwash.

btw today was really sunny and i greatly enjoyed the luxury of t-tops off Very Happy

I also enjoyed the tops off. When Camaro250z28 got my car (I bought it from him) The steering column was torn apart from an attempted theft. couldn't even get to the ignition. we had to tear it the rest of the way to start it. then the column fell down on him while he was driving it. So I have wrong vats with the right vats key soldered to the 2 vats wires. it works.
