Looking for the ram used on 1967-1976 F150/250 Hi-boys with a king pin Dana 44 FF front axle.
Mine's leaking from the ram. Might just be a simple O-ring, but the one that's on there kind of looks like it might be the wrong one, as I could never hit full lock on the right without strong resistance and I only have 25" tires (on a 16" rim) on the front now.
Replacement is about $750 including the $300 core deposit. Rebuild kits are cheap, but I don't want to rebuild something that's the wrong part in the first place.
I'm new to this stuff, but from what I've gathered so far, most people switch over to the Dodge/GM saginaw box and sector shafts with spherical rod ends, because the rams are so prone to failure, especially with bigger tires and a lift.
Might start a new thread for this in the "garage" section. |

Saginaw swap. Don't waste time with old Ford rams.
Hell, do a Saginaw pump swap at the same time. I've done it on both my diesel and my new F-150.
*Edit: Looks like you can do a 2wd Ford box easily as well. |

I'm suprised the 77+ stuff is much better and doesn't use the ram, why the changeover on the diesel truck
As for the F150....I'm further confused about why the change |

The factory Ford C2 pump used on cars and F-series trucks is a pile.
Ford ran the Saginaw pump on the E-series vans. It's not hard to find one with the same belt and brackets and swap them over. I reuse the low pressure line, cooler, Ford steering box and linkage as it is all fine. Just the pump is crap. |

News to me, put 100,000 miles on one, 120,000 miles on another, and 20,000 on yet another. Never changed a powersteering pump. |

The problem with the C2 is not necessarily that they fail. The problem is that they whine incessantly when under any sort of load. |

Agree with Aaron.. That pump ford used is a noisey POS. I've changed many of them at work. Always like the warning included in the box that says this pump may whine for the first 500 miles. I think that's just to get the customer to use it until they don't notice the noise anymore. |

ok, so,
Is the solution the 2WD 601 Saginaw box and Sector shafts? What is the pivot on the passenger side since my spindle attachment aims in front of the cross member?
Rod? what do you think? |
