				| So I finally brought myself to take a look at my 1999 Taurus SHO again after it died on me about a mile from where I was going. The transmission had finally given up and I'm finally giving up on it magically fixing itself so I'm going to finally fix it.
I have never removed the drivetrain from a FWD vehicle and was wondering if anyone has any tips other than "don't" for this. Apparently this can only be accomplished by removing the front subframe and everything attached to it from the bottom. I have a car lift a cherry picker and a gantry with a chain hoist and I have thought of a few ways of going about this but I'm hoping somebody has done this at home before and has insight.

				| Never done it on a Taurus, so I may be no help at all.
Helped a couple friends with their Honda swaps though, and we've only ever pulled the motor out the top by just unbolting and unhooking everything from the motor (wires, intake, exhaust, motor mounts) and going up up and away.

				| i have helped with a ford focus SVT swap, just removed everything from the bottom and lowered the motor down onto a crawler and then disconnected it from the hoist, that was after we pulled the tranny, the tranny was tiny and really easy to remove, i think you need a slide hammer to pull the transaxles tho. it was actually a pretty simple process _________________

				| Ive pulled a tranny on a metro. Not to difficult
The only motor fwd was the intrepid which is not your normal fwd swap.

IIRC, the 4th gen fbody you have to remove the subframe to get the motor out as well.

				| I helped my dad swap the transmission out on his early 90's Tuarus wagon. It was 16 years ago so I dont remember the specifics except for the following. You need a shop manual, Chiltons?

Crib the car up a couple of feet so the assembly can be pulled out from the bottom

You will need lots of extensions and wobblies.

Also, rebuild the transmission, dont put a used one in it.

				| Well from reading on a taurus forum since mine is the SHO model with the 3.4 V8 it has to be removed from the bottom, Supposedly I have to support the unibody somehow about 25 inches to the ground measuring from the radiator support. I am planning to rebuild it and I have a mater rebuild kit for it waiting. I guess I'll have to get the thing on the lift and take a thorough look at it. _________________
