I think Ducati is the only manufacturer still using desmodromic valves. A friend of mine had a Ducati Hypermotard with that system. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

If you want to see something really cool look at the Coates rotary valve head. They make such a big deal over the Ford small block swap and then never made it in production for any car. Morons.

Cummins has been working on it for a while too.
I guess the biggest problem is that the solenoids that run the valves are too strong, and snap the valve stem off. Technology isn't quite there for widespread use. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| For a while Lotus was working on an electro-hydraulic valve operated system, that allowed for fully computer controlled valve timing. Would be pretty interesting to have a fully programmable system for that. Could make a car idle like it had a small cam, but scream up high like it had a monster cam, with complete control in between. |

Definitely. Emissions will love it too. VGT was a huge step in that direction. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| The Coates heads make a normal engine into a monster. |
