I remember swapping the rear in my '89 Firebird. It was no big deal. I just rolled it in and out on the tires.
Not so with the '01 Camaro! I spent almost all day fiddling with the rearend. It was a total pain in the rear to get out of the car. When I finally got it out I thought I would just swap the backing plates and move on.... WRONG! The ABS/traction control reluctor wheel was missing from the new (to me) rearend. I spent a freaking eternity trying to get those things off. I finally fired up the charcoal grill and put the axles on the cooking rack. Nope, not enough. I had to put them down in the coals. After hours of effort I finally got them off. The new rearend is put together now. I just need to add fluid and install a cover gasket. Oh, did I mention that my wife wouldn't help me carry the axles? I had to lift them myself and move them around the garage and put them up on jack stands.
Unfortunately, I know it's harder to put it back in then to take it out. I am not looking forward to tomorrow. |

So the new one was a 3 channel rear with the reluctor in the pumpkin? Sucky.
I always remember projects being easier than they actually were. And it gets progressively easier the longer its been. _________________

No, both are 4 channel. It looks like the guy kept the axle reluctor rings to use on his new 9" axles. I had to remove the reluctor from my old axle shafts and put them on the new axle shafts. I couldn't re-use my old axle shafts because they have wear from the squeaky bearing.
The one thing that is concerning me is that the new Torsen diff is locked. I'm hoping it works itself out when I turn the first corner. |

| It worked itself out before I even put the car on the ground. Only problem now is that the ABS/TC doesn't work. I'm done for now. That can wait for later. Other than that the car drove good and it has more snap now. |
