I wanna upgrade my front brakes and I've seen a cool buildup in a car mag on a 4thgen and was wondering how hard it would be to duplicate on a 3rdgen.

4thgens have bolt-on hub/bearing and an upper control arm where as thirdgens have no upper control arm (spindle bolts directly to strut) and serviceable inner and outer bearing setup.

Basically, I just needed to know if the caliper bolts on the same way and are the dimensions the same? Would it be possible to put a 4thgen caliper on a 3rdgen spindle? How about rotors from a C5/C6? I figured you'd be the one to know Ian.  |

Most brake upgrades require removing the dust shield and drill/tapping the shield holes for a caliper carrier bracket.

Its actually not really that much work if you swap a full 4th gen setup in.
I know if you dig on thirdgen you can find a pretty good how too. I looked into it when I did the rear LS1 swap.
I believe there was a simple mod (removing a small piece) that you had to do to the 4th gen spindle to make it work in a 3rd gen. But I was reading this last year lol, so its a little foggy now.
Also, check LS1tech, and LT1LS1 for cheap parts. When they parts out cars you can usually get everything you need dirt cheap.
I paid 200 bucks for a full rear end brake swap, backing plates out, including all brackets, ebrake cables etc.

No, they don't bolt on the same. As Paul said you'd need to drill/tap the dust shield holes for something larger (usually 3/8,10 or 12mm) and bolt on an adapter bracket. Then you can just bolt on a 4thgen, c4,c5,c6, ctsv, zr1 etc caliper/abutment bracket or whatever you want.

Grab a spare set of spindles from the JY and start hacking.

Adapter brackets added after drill & tap of the dust shield bolt holes, the ones you get may look slightly different, but they bolt up the same...
They install on the car like so...
Then the hub and rotor go on prior to installing the caliper bracket...
I'd be glad to help when you get this started. I also have a set of unmolested spindles I could let go cheap

Those are Ian's old C5 brakes. The rotors are 12.75" - the brackets came from this site...

I ran the 18" c5 wagon wheels and then my current 18" c6 wheels.
Your zo6s won't clear c6 Z stuff but they will clear the c6 Z51 setup. 13.4" rotor and the same caliper Al is running (well, a slightly updated designed to reduce caliper spread when tracked). |

what size brakes do you think we could fit under my 14in wheels? do you think a stock 2 piston 4th gen caliper would fit? probably... not lol
