I picked up this article a while back and just stumbled across it again recently. Thought I'd post it up for anyone who still has a place in there heart for an old 305.

http://www.superchevy.com/technical/engines_drivetrain/completebuilds_testing/sucp_1007_305_small_block_engine_build/index.html

Enjoy.

Electric pump, no belt-driven accessories and longtubes. The number they obtained has no correlation with anything in the real world. Dynoing the engine like that just sells magazines, nothing more.

All they really did was waste money on gaskets, and waste the time of their monkeys to put the thing together. But you know what? It sold some magazines. Wink

+ Westech dyno Rolling Eyes

If your budget is that tight you aren't going to be buying nice aluminum heads. If you are going to be putting money into heads, cam, intake, then it just doesn't make sense not to step it up for the cost of a 350 block and some machining.

Don't take me wrong, even factored with accessories they ended up making decent power, but more power for same $ = better.

Aaron is right, they sold some mags and some parts with that.
