So i just rebuilt my non world class and its already on its way out. Aparently the fourms wernt kidding about the non WC t-5's behind the 5.7 tpi... Smile

So ill take anything at this point that is in good useable not makeing noise condition!

I would prefer the world class but shoot me a response or pm with what you may have.

Maybe even a t56 for the right price??

Hate to be the guy to say it... But if the gears were in good shape, you set the main shaft end play properly, and used good rebuild wear parts it'll hold a mild 350 TPI just fine. High hp clutch drops and sticky tires... Not so much.

Wc t5 is marginally stronger. The upgrades that make it world class are for milage longevity.

Yea for sure it was my first rebuild so im sure it wasnt perfect. but i also drive the car sideways... Smile

it also could have been the cheap ebay rebuild kit i got for it. its deffinatly the bearings makeing noise

Could be your throw out bearing. Did you set end play? The input bearings go to shizzle if you don't have enough oil. Cheap bearings tend to be noisy also.

Its deffinatly a bearing in the transmission. When i rebuilt it one of the teeth on the countershaft musthave gotten chipped on 2nd gear becuase since the rebuild it had a 2nd gear chattering on the coast side of the gear. so at this point im just going to get another used transmission untill i can get a t56 to swap in.

I didnt set end play I used the original shims and just matched everything back up but that oviously didnt work so well. Smile

My NWC T5: Very abused.

Functionality: Perfect. No problems at all.

Noises: Oh God the grinding/rattling/whining will it ever stop!!??

Been exactly this noisy for about 40k miles, ever since I got the car. Bought it from very abusive rednecks who managed to blow up the 305 at 67k miles. I abuse it with my HSR 355. No problems. No traction, which is why it lives as Paul said.

More fun than an automatic any day of the week.

I'm with Gabe on this one. The NWC T5 in my old S10 (beat on by me and the previous owner, but survived due to being behind a six) made all kinds of weird noises. Always shifted fine, though. Wink

I got a NWC T5 behind my 383 and its doing fine so far(fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc.), just like (almost) everyone else's. No weird noises, but it does grind going into third sometimes. And I never go light on the throttle Embarassed

Alright ill settle for another non WC then! Its so weird on this board everyone is running the non wc and have good things to say. when I did my reaseach probably a year and a half ago now on TGO everyone was talking about not even putting the non wc behind a stock 5.7 tpi if you drive it even remotly hard...

I heard the same thing. But then looked at prices...300 bucks more for a rebuilt WC! So i decided to go NWC and baby it. So much for babying it...hope it works out for ya!

Yea it's deffinatly nicer I like how it feels no play or wiggle room at all. I thought it might have still had a shorter throw but it's just a little less then stock from forward to rear gears. Still a huge upgrade tho! Thanks!

Never dreamed when I built that trans it would make the rounds like it has.
