I'm getting pretty excited, I'm going to finally go to college, my goal is to become an automotive machinist. I meet with my advisor on Monday, and have already been approved for federal grants. Anyone in the crew a machinist? How difficult is it to find work after school if so? I really want to build high performance engines, and open my own shop at some point..

I've machined many engines and done alot of side machining. It's all about attention to detail and take GOOD notes in class and save your books. You'll reference them forever.

Probably wont have much to offer till you get some info under your belt, but start looking at shops you might like to work at and chat with em. Tell em your story and your goals maybe you can intern while at school.

I'm planning on that for sure. I've got a pretty good grasp of classic auto, I've built a number of engines, but all the machine work, aside from valve grinding, and honing, is shipped out right now. I've got a valve grinder, and honing stuff. I also do my own brakes, ahve a tire machine, etc, so I can probably get on a shop pretty easily once I start school. Never had a car in a shop, no matter what was wrong with it, or how long it took me to fix it. Smile Might have parts at a machine shop here and there, but that's it.

I met with the Dept head of the manufacturing part of the college here, I'll be taking machining with welding from them, and then performance engine, and a couple other things from the auto dept, will be ASE performance engine specialist once done with that part. That should get me on the road to working in a shop building high performance engines within the next 2-3 years. I cannot wait to start school. Going to head to local machine shops this week and see about getting an internship, or work study program going, so I can get into the field and out of IT as soon as possible.

Thanks man. I'm stoked to get out of the computer world, and back to working on cars for a living. Very Happy
