You'll need the car to tune it. No way to do it right going by specs. I think there's more you'll need as well, but never done it myself. Several people here have done their own tuning though, i'm sure they'll let you know. I think Mangus even wrote the software you'll be using.

Depends on the setup you use. I ran Moates Burn1 and ZIF socket chips, so chip burning could be done remotely. You need to datalog the car in various situations, then go back and rework the chip as needed. No way it can just be done in an afternoon.

Let me put it to you this way: I started burning chips for my IROC in Spring of '08 (IIRC) and when I sold the car last July I was still fiddling with the tune on it.

the reason i need ur car is to plug in the computer and see if all sensors etc. are working and also to log actual running conditions,.

i think u can burn a chip in a few hours that will get u close enough to run car as a daily driver ..

that said , can u please provide specific details about ur engine set up.
what ecm ?? current chip if u know. weight of car, cam, compression, tpi upgrades?? injector size, TB size, porting?? type of heads, headers??

does the car run?? i am about 30 miles from u all highway.

let me know info and we will go from there.

IIRC, he now has a TPI setup. He'll need an adapter to piggyback the new (modified) chip with the stock chip - maybe something like this

http://www.moates.net/product_info.php?cPath=64&products_id=32

If need be, I've got the Burn-1 and software from Moates, I'll let you borrow it. It's Windows based instead of DOS, but if you need to re-learn...

I'm going to pull the trigger in a couple of weeks and get RBob's EBL Flash unit and won't need the Burn-1 afterward.

Could be fun, I was also ET1(SS), worked in the Nav Center. I'm normally home after 6:30 during the week and free most weekends. Name a place and we'll see if we can meet up.

I never did quite get the knack of using the burner, still learning. Part of it is the new 512 chips that take some special addressing to get to work (256 chips aren't available any more).

You'll need a MAP 305 .bin for an auto car.

He's running a carb cam in the engine, so you'll have your work cut out for you.

*Edit: I believe this is the cam, you'll have to get confirmation from Luke on that though:

my car runs but will not drive, so only way to get it to your place would be to have it towed...

and yes aaron that is the cam that i have

would the knock sensor have anything to do with the timing issues?? cause i am currently using the knock sensor that was in the block already from 1985....would a new one fix that? 2 days ago it threw two codes the ESC code and the knock sensor code

is there a way were we could remotley tune it to get it driveable and then i could drive it to your house and have it tuned with the car

Knock sensors rarely go bad, and are somewhat expensive. Wipe codes and see if it can be recreated. If it's throwing an EST code, then you probably haven't wiped since you last set the timing. Razz

Yes a bad Knock sensor would make car updrivable...
there are 2 sensors 1 for a 305 and 1 for a 350, make sure u have the correct one.
in order to do anything with the chip u must have the engine in good machanical shape and have all the coorect sensors working properly--then u have a chance to tune.....
do u have a 730 ECM?
