Just had an interview with Monoco Coach located in Eugene Or. Scheduling a second interview next week and all seems to be going really well. I know a few of you are in that area and was hoping for some insite to Eugene. Anything good to say?

Company seems really nice to work with so far. Just bought out but I'd be the focal/lead engineer responsible for powertrain to chassis engineering on some pretty big RV's. Would be fun without a doubt.

Good luck with the second interview!

Do I see a couple of diesel turbos for the Camaro's future? Very Happy

That would be sweet man maybe you can design them to be a little easier to work on since I have worked on a ton of them when I worked for a huge RV dealer and those things are horrible to work on! Evil or Very Mad

i live in springfield and overall its a good area. lots of hippies and lots of shitty roads in eugene though. i used to work at monaco when i first moved here from canada and it was a pretty good place to work for from my experience. good luck with the interview.

Yeah lots of hippies, and it rains a bunch. Lots of cool cars there though. Lots of muscle cars, since it was a logging town in that era, meaning there was money. Pretty cool place all in all.

Any job is better than no job, but do you know that they went bankrupt in May 2009? As cool as that job sounds, I would keep looking for a different job for long term stability (obviously take the job if they offer it). The RV industry is hurting badly.

i think they did the bankruptcy that restructures the company...they have been back up and running for awhile now. i think they are just not mass producing them like they used to so they dont have a bunch of coachs just sitting there waiting to be sold and taking up funds.

yup...looked exactly like that. they used to mass build them for awhile then when they had 300 to 400 coachs out back they would do a mass layoff till they all sold and then just rehire. in the yr i worked there, there was 3 big layoffs. in the 5+ yrs i worked at country coach there was only 2 big layoffs other then the final nail in the coffin ones.

Under a quick google search followed by reading the company news I found that they had a restructuring bankruptcy. Seems like they have really slimmed back and currently only have one electrical guy, which would be me. So a powertrain, chassis, cabin, and electrical. 4 guys. Thats a small crew!

Second interview scheduled for thursday at 9am. Gonna take a day off work to drive down there (8hr drive) and see if they can impress me. My wifes boss just went down there and said it was a ghost town and everyone else seems to have funny feelings about the place. Would they really hire someone to just get rid of them quickly? Even for a summer job I wouldn't complain.

from what i have heard im under the impression that they dont run like that anymore ( meaning hiring a bunch then layin them off after they build the quota). hopefully it works out for ya though.

Thanks. Inside (my head) I hope it really works out. It would be fun to work a different field. Plus they build some pretty huge RV's. Duramax camaro?

when i worked they got a custom order from a 70+yr old guy for some big motor that was pushin like 700 horses or so..they detuned it for insurance reasons. cant remember everything about exactly cuz it was 6 yrs ago or so, but i do remember because my lead at the time pulled me off the line to show me the motor. the rv field can be fun...especially when you see some of the weird stuff people order. but i guess when you are payin that much for a toy you can pretty much put whatever you want in it.

There's places in Oregon it doesn't rain a whole lot, I live in Bend, where it's usually sunny or snowing, not much rain till the last couple years though...

I love Eugene.

My father in law lives down there and he took me out for an awesome tour of the city followed by a microbrewery crawl! Ninkasi, Steelhead, and then Hop Valley. College towns are fun, running trails, parks, hills, rivers, lakes.... What a cool town.

Interview went well too. Went from 9-11:30 with a video conference, long tour of the plant, followed by a meet and greet of the engineering team. Everyone seemed cheerfull and good to talk to. Now it's the waiting game.
