Was headed out to the barn to make some modification to a tool a made. Had the dog with me.. all of a sudden she takes off wide open. All I hear is loud grunting/shuffling noises and her barking.. Wayy off into the field. She chased whatever it was quite a ways. Bit scary when you're in the pitch black and have no clue what was there. Could have just been an elk or deer, but i've seen bobcat, and other people have seen bear and cougar in my backyard.

I had a 3/4 acre lot in the High Sierras, camped there a ton to get out of the CA smog, crime, sirens, etc. I heard something one night, and even with my 44mag, was scared shirtless to go out and see.

My son told me he saw one late at night.........
