Got a bit done on the old GMC this weekend. Actually got it running finally yesterday. No exhaust yet, shootin straight outa the Ypipe but oh well eh? Very Happy So today I ran it back out of the barn and got rid of the camper shell... also discovered a bit of damage preventing me from installing the tailgate.. a big hammer will fix it i'm sure. Installed the hood today and jacked her up to install the 3/4 ton rear. Still running around on the 1/2 ton unit at the moment. Crawled under there and discovered I have to pull the DS fuel tank. Stupid thing wraps around one of the spring bolts! Anyway, getting real close to having a work truck that I wont have to baby at all. When I get all the mechanicals done, i'll do some sanding and just prime the old beast.

So here's a few pics of 3truckscombined.

Can't tell that small block didnt come in there can you?? It's a 91 crate, looks worse then it is. Lucky too, the truck it came out of had all new hoses, belts, starter etc, and it all fit. With the BB a/c radiator in there the thing sucked up 4.5 gallons of coolant!!! Shocked

Check out that awesome olive green and wood trim interior! The height of fashion 1973! Truck is a High Sierra so it was top of the line for the year. Has all the options and lots of sound deadener/insulation.. Just too bad this thing is a longbed.

nice progress B. ahhh the earth tones... my first house was built in 1974 and it was two-tone brown/green. The green wasn't too far off that one. It went real nice with the wicker type wallpaper in the living room Rolling Eyes

I didn't get too much done... cleaned up the CAI a bit on the bird so now everything is tightened down pretty good. Prepped the main floor of the house... going to be doing a bunch of painting in the near future.

That's kind of funny cause my parents just sold a 75 Siearra Grande today. 3/4 ton, twin tanks, shell, primered black... With a firebird steering wheel! Laughing

Tough old trucks, but back then they sure didnt know anything bout rustproofing. This is one of the better early 73-78's i've seen and its not good.

Oh damn, isn't that the truth. When my parents got the truck I helped pull the blown 350 and tranny and replaced it with one of the spare firebird engine/tranny combos we had laying around and everything under that truck was a nightmare! The muffler fell off going across the Narrows Bridge...fuuuuun.

kinda makes me miss the terrible truck I had bought....

$400 and that got me basically a crate engine in a big ole pile of shizzle (rusted firewall and all LMAO )

a truck like that would probably go for a couple of grand here in texas... trucks are expensive as shizzle here Shocked

Whaaaaat? Are you serious? Trucks down there are cheap! My parents just bought a 97 tahoe for 7k from houston. That's almost 3k cheaper than anything they could find up here...

EDIT: 100th post! yaaaay...or something

Dude, Aaron, a good running truck is worth a sold $1000.

One with a straight body $1500
One with a straight body okay paint $2000

And I'm talkin old school trucks like this.

I sold my old beater '67 with a leaking high mile 305. for $1000. Rusty all over, body wasn't straight, just mechanically sound minus the leaky engine.

maybe i should rephrase then...

any trucks I've been interested just cost more ...

SUV's are fairly cheap around here, I'll give you that, there are suburbans aplenty for a couple of grand... but Pickup trucks are a different story... especially shorty 1500 silverado's and the like...

I've seen an early 80's chevy going for 1800 and its missing a rear window and tailgate, beat to crap, bondo'd up, body panels pulled and holes left in it, etc ... and it was sold not too long after (also had a nice puddle of oil under it)

something like what brandon's got would easilly get 1500 bucks here, if not more depending on the area...

Paul, I'm well aware of what trucks are worth.... Smile

the 79 I bought for $400 was because they couldn't get it to run... that problem was solved with some gas and new plugs... granted the tank had some rust floating about and the firewall was starting to rot, both fenders rotting and no door seals, etc LMAO but it was still sold for over $1000 ... 2bbl carb on a crate engine though, needed a timing chain and the distributor redone...

and I've had a hard time finding anything worth my while down here Sad

up in washington I could have found a grip of trucks ...

granted, down here one requires AC Sad
