I want to put the LED 194 bulbs in my dash, but I don't want it so dim you can't see it, or so bright it's blinding at night.

Those are $1.49

These are $2.59

And these are $2.99

I need like 17 of them

And I heard once that these wouldn't get dim with the headlight rheastat.... is that true? Or should cutting the power down make them dimmer.... I would think it would make it dimmer not shut it off completely... atleast not right away.

I can't imaging the dimmer will work right, but it might. With the LED cluster, there is a built in resister (something like a 10k). Since the LEDs have such a lower power draw.

E-mail them and ask for the specs on the LED's used. They should be able to give you the MCD rating on them, that will tell you how bright they are.

Hmm looks like people on TGO use 10,000MCD two per socket when the do it and it looks just right.

The top one is 270MCD
The second is 1300per LED

Not sure about the last....

Looks like the 2nd would have to do....

the other thing to look at is the focus of the light, typical LEDs are very focused (a 30* is a WIDE focus LED) with as many bulbs as the older style cluster uses, and the fact that they are not backlighting, you'll probably be ok. 5200mcd per, should be plenty bright to illuminate the guages

I've seen some pics where people used two 10,000 mcd per socket and its not all that bright in blue. Found a part number from digikey that looks like its a drop in 7000mcd bulb.... 10 for $13.33! yeah baby!

I followed the mfgs part number and it looks like they are 12v direct drop in for 194 bulbs.... too bad the 90-92 dashes take different bulbs!

FYI:

194 bulbs are 2 candle power, and 168's are 3 candle power. So that makes the 168's 50% brighter than the 194's.

And the 168's cost the same as the 194's and are available everywhere.

But I don't like that nasty yellow glow! And the coated bulbs fade, like mine have done, and don't look as good anymore.

Well another interesting fact is that the 3496 krypton bulbs are a direct replacement for 1157's and are 38% brighter on the high side. (killer brake lights) They seem to be much brighter than the stupid $20 LED's we carry, and are only $8 per pair. And I really like the idea of really bright brake lights with all the idiots on the road today.

And the krypton 3497's are a direct replacement for the 1156's also.
