so a few years back i received a ticket (as did Quasitraction) for "streetracing". we got a little excited at a light and paid the price. anyway, here it is two years later and it comes up in casual conversation with me and the geico rep over the phone while i was making a change to my policy. i made a reference that i 'keep the racing on the track now' and she was like 'oh you hit the local strip'? i responded 'yes' and she made some comment like 'well thats safer then the street' and we moved on. here it is 30 days later and i get a cancelation notice.
Quote:
due to the family auto policy contract does not provide coverage for vehicles used for racing.

so i call geico, thinking someone using my name / fake id has done something very wrong, that has affected my driving record. not the case. these people must just LOOK for ways to screw you. last time i get confused and think i'm talking to a real person, and not a robot/corporate whore. to get this fixed i have to sign an affidavit stating the vehicle is no longer used for "closed circuit racing" and fax it to them. i am thinking about just switching insurance providers. because F them.

just thought i would use this as a reminder to let everyone know to be careful what you bring up in casual conversation with your insurance provider. they are not real people.

That is complete bullshit. I absolutely loath insurance companies of any sort. I'm sorry man. I wish there was something we could to do change it. I think it's equally as stupid that we have to cover each and every car if we want insurance to cover damage. You should get insurance to cover the most expensive car of your collection and be done with it. Talk about the most efficient and twisted way to profit from statistics. #$%^&*

Back in the day, they were quite discriminative. Even when they were what their name impies - Government Employees Insurance COmpany (GEICO). My brother, as a Navy E5 was refused coverage for a '79 Firebird Esprit because he wasn't an E7 or higher. I guess they figured the rank would make him irresponsible and/or not able to afford the car & insurance (this was early 80's). I've never even looked into them since.

That's gotta be about the most retarded reason I've ever heard of an insurance company dropping someone.

That sucks man. Check out Unitrin, State Farm or Allstate.

My ins agent is a block away from where you work.

Its been three years since our "racing" incident, dude.... Wink

I'm with state farm, and I think I mentioned I autocross one time. Likely the lady I talk to doesnt know what that is.

But this is a good reminder of being careful what you say.

At the end of the day an insurance company is a business that needs to make money. Policies and prices are determined by statisticians. They cannot screen each person individually so they have to make broader conclusions based on what kind of people cost them money in the past - and what kind of people don't cost them money. Apparently you fit the mold of somebody that they consider a liability and don't want as a customer any longer. Shrug

When I was young I was dropped from Nationwide for having a lowered suspension on my Firebird. I was a good kid with good grades. I literally had NOTHING in my past that was objectionable, had nothing to hide, and had no tickets. For that reason I make a point to be up front and ask specific questions about hot rodding, car modifications, and racing. Being direct when you search for insurance is the best policy. I have found just a few insurance companies that will give coverage with a modified vehicle. Interesting thing is that the company I'm with now wouldn't touch me when I was younger.

Would not touch Satte Farm was drop from them after being with them for 25 years. Because for my wifes reckless driving conviction.

Said that they dont offer insurance to us bescause of the reckless driving.

When we first got the 87 formy back in 91, we went to insure it and all was looking good.. asked what motor, said 305, no problem. Then the agent walked outside and saw the formula sticker on the door. Immediatly the price went waaay up. I said but the motor is still the same one that comes in the regular firebird(lg4), no dice. Because of the sticker on the side they made alot more money off of us.

i hate insurance companies. i got drop from progressive when i got in my accident, witch i find kind of funny cause it was at the end of my first month of driving so we had payed them a total of 300 somthing dollars and they had to shell out just under 3 grand for the other cars damage. so looks like they lost a good chunk of cash off me.but the thing is i hate is im 16 driving a camaro with a v8 and have had an accident so no insurance company will come near me yet i need it to drive wtf

Hey Tony, I witnessed some street racing from you this morning at about 10 am on the 405 southbound. You were in the GTA and when you passed me I hit the air horn and waved (one finger of course), you just gave me a dirty look and sped off up an exit. Laughing

I talked to state farm back when I had my modified s10 about its modifications. They strait up said unless I want to get custom insurance ($$$$$$) to just keep recipts and document what I have done very well.

Luckly I never had to test what they told me.

Now my first car when I was a kid, the radio kept getting stolen. After the 3rd one, they said they would no long cover the radio or any eletronic equipment on the car and made us sign paperwork.

So far, I am very happy with state farm. And my rates seem to be lower then anyone else.

My insurance company rocks. Very Happy

Liability on the '84 Z28 and full coverage on my '96 Subaru are together about $100 a month... And that's with more than a few speeding tickets, highest was for 28 over. No accidents or reckless driving on my record though, only speeding.

Oh yeah, and I'm 19. Razz

Mine is $135/month for 3 cars, full coverage on 2 of them and liability on the third. One speeding ticket about 2 years ago, but nothing for about 15 years before that - but I'm over 40 Shocked

1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

PostPosted: Tue Jun 30, 2009 8:02 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

The worst phone call I have had to make was to my auto insurence company.

My then 2.5 year old son popped my 87 IROC out of gear, the car rolled down the driveway with the drivers door open and impaled itself into the passenger side of my wifes 540i BMW. Three doors, two quarter panels, three weeks, insurence check and 2500.00 cash, and lots of ass chewing later the wifes car was repaired and mine was getting a new paint job.

I found out that day why my insurence was so cheap, only had 20K collosion. It covered the damage, barely. Still had to pay a deductible on each car, rental car was on me and to top it off, I think my wife still hates me for being irisponsible.
