So I'm about done with the Delo 400/EOS mix in the 390. 85 psi cold, 20 psi hot. Rolling Eyes The mileage on the new engine is up to around 2K now. Is it to soon to run Royal Purple in it? I've heard you want to wait up to 5K on a new engine before running synthetic, but I've also seen guys run it way earlier, or even break in with it. Shocked

Any thoughts or suggestions guys?

Thanks.

I don't see any problems running synth now. I haven't run synth in the camaro but I can tell you Delo 400 15w-40 , Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w-50, and castrol 10w-40 all ran the exact same HOT oil pressure.

Turns out for me it's time for bearings to be in the safe side.

When you put the merc together, how did you check bearing clearances?

I might consider the Castrol EDGE and or Amsoil too.

We waited 2k before putting the 442's on 10-30 synthetic. They love it, I love the protection, especially when the car sits most of the time anyways.

I think you're safe.

Royal purple good, amsoil good, edge should be good.. Mobil 1 stay away now. Speaking from experience. My cam went flat a couple years ago while running M1.

@ Paul, no idea on the bearings, NW Connecting Rod built the longblock. Wouldn't give them an ounce of credit though. Shoddy-ass shop from what I've seen of their engine. Good thing I payed about a third of what it was worth.

@ Brandon, you don't see any problem running Purple with only 2K on the engine? If not, I'll go with it since I've been running it in the IROC for a couple of years now.

If the rings seem to have seated, then I see no problem swapping to synthetic now. I do have to say that the royal purple doesnt seem to hold hot oil pressure as well as the mobil 1 did. I think my next change I'll be trying castrol edge.

I could've tossed you a ford racing filter/K&N for the same price. For some reason Randy started stocking the ford filter for a buddys procharged fox body.

I need to change the oil in mine, Was thinking of going a diff route than the Delo (20psi hot, is a little unnerving to me)

Paul, you were saying most of em will read the same low hot pressure?

The ones I tried did. I'm not saying the read low, I'm saying they read the same for me. 20psi hot is okay. 10psi is still technically okay... just not... lol

Like I said, I'd go Amsoil, Royal, or Castrol Edge. B says Royal reads a tad low, so try one of the others.

I've tried several differant oils and all of them gave me the same old 10 psi hot. That is all this engine has ever had since we put it together 7 years ago.

I'm currently running Royale Purple.
