i got a big problem. so my starter was going out in my 83 z28 so i bought a new one and put it in today but after i reconnected the battery my car is getting absolutly no power. no lights, no nothing. we checked all the cables and grounds, checked all the fuses in the box and nothing was disconnectd or blown. i think it might be the main fuse or braker but i can't find it anywhere not even in the book. I had to leave it at a buddies house cause i had to go cause i was getting so pissed off at everything and everyone. please. i have no idea what to do.

| There are a couple wires about 10 guage that go on the starter with the positive cable, make sure you hooked those up. They have big eyes on the ends, to fit over the stud. Powers the whole car. |

when i pulled the old one out there was only one fat one and one skinny wire. but there are a couple of wires spliced directly into the poss. cable before the starter. but i'll still try to locate another wire. thanks. anything else? do you know where the main braker or fuse would be if its not in the fuse box and i didn't see another box in the engine bay..... _________________

the older cars arent like the new one with main braker boxes, then another mini fuse box.
You have a small likely purple wire which is the "start".
You have the big red from the battery, and likely some other orange and/or red wires that go on that same terminal. They might also have whats called inline fuseable links. Which is basically a fuse that you cant replace.
Now, when I re-wired my car. I didnt put some of the wires back on the right terminal and the car didnt work. I forget what its problems where though _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Check what I mentioned in the PM. Rodney got it though, you're supposed to have Fusible Links that connect at the big terminal on the starter.
If yours didn't have em, and they spliced them into the heavy wire, you got a problem. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Thanks for all the help. It seems i didn't see the second cable for the big terminal so i didn't hook it up. I didn't even remember seeing it. but it was there, hanging down behind the starter where i couldn't see it. Plus when i took my battery to be tested me guy at schucks hooked it up and it read " Untestable source: replace battery" so that was another thing but It's all good now. And i'm good to party tonight.

Had a similar situation when replacing the motor in my V6. With the car on the lift, as I was hooking up the starter, the main battery cable slipped off as I was reaching to get the fusible links. Well, I didn't notice that the cable was off and continued on. When time came to check electrical, nothing worked. I took me another day or so to figure it out as I was hooking the exhaust back up and saw sparks coming from the ring terminal on the battery cable as it contacted any metal around it. _________________ 92 Camaro
