Thought this was kind of a neat stand, Plus I thought that 283 sounded pretty gnarly.

Think if you attached a weight to the output shaft that you could do some mild tuning? |

Looks just like the engine stand my dad's car club built! They were raffling off a 350, this year they're doing a 383.
Those stands are sweet. We ran the club motor straight headers though. Started it up at car shows and stuff to sell raffle tickets. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Was thinking of building one, looks like it'd be simple enough to Fab up. I just need some rectangular tubing, a couple casters, motor mounts, maybe some Channel, and a old Radiator.
I'd probably just make it a "motor only" stand. _________________

Battery, alterantor, ignition switch, fuel source, and of course all the other motor components like starter, distributor, headers, carb, vacuum plugs, water plugs, etc. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

with the exception of maybe the battery, I assume the motor I'd put on there would be dressed short of an Alt and PS pump.. Don't really need an ign switch, screwdriver bridging the terminals on the solenoid works. And a gas can with some rubber fuel line and maybe something to catch if it has a return line on the fuel pump should work. _________________

How are you going to run the WP without the alt on there?
Sure the screw driver method will turn the starter, but how do you run power to the dist/coil to KEEP it running, and easily turn it off when need be?
Gas can = vapors. Vapors = flamable. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Good call on the WP. didn't think of that Maybe some kind of adjustable idler bracket and a pulley to turn the WP?? Or would i just be easier to run the alt and subsequent wiring to power it?
What if you ran the motor without a T-stat and nothing turning the WP? Would coolent still find its way in from pressure buildup in the Rad?
if no Alt, I would guess the Reserve life of the batt would be enough to power the coil/plugs for a few minutes for basic tuning. Also if no alt, just disconnect the battery, and it should shut down, right?
Just want to reiterate that the intention of the stand would only be to display that a motor runs, holds idle, or for basic tuning/timing purposes. not for prolonged running. _________________

What happens when you hear something bad and you need to shut it down in a hurry. A cheap switchs for the ign is all ya need. And a momentary switch to activate a ford starter noid works great.
You need the water pump turning if you're going to run it for more than 10-15 seconds. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

alright.
I trust your advice/judgement paul.
This wont be in the works for at least a little while. still have to set up final details about transporting a certain automobile.
(after all I have a 1961 Sudebaker with motor/trans in the chassis still.... ) I just liked the idea behind the stand, didnt know I'd take so much shizzle for it!
Thought the running motor stand might be an option to sell the old iron out of that that beast....I (hope) some studebaker guy would jump on it.
Aw, F--k it. Who wants a G-d-amed Studebaker.
I'm shooting for the breeze.
F--k me. _________________

if I had the money I'd take it in a heart beat.
I love those old cars. but somehow I doubt the 73 cents I have in my pocket would even buy me admission to that auction. |

Well the deal is, if I remove it from a friend's house so he can sell the property, its mine.
its a 2 Door 1961 Lark Hardtop. needs a lot of work though. _________________
