So I have this DVD burner and it says its to created 120 min of xxx bondage leather and lace dvds....ok, that line is from a movie. But seriously, its to beable to hold 120min of video right? Thats what the DVD says.

I created some DVD's and they wouldnt play in my DVD player. I found out my ancient player will only play DVD-r style(there are different styles?).

So I get a stack of DVD-r, single layer. I go to rip some last night, and I can only seem to hold about 45min.. even though the dvd says 120. Thats not even HALF of what the dvd says it will hold.

Any idea WTF is going on? If I could only get 100, that would be fine.. kinda like on a harddrive you dont actually get the advertised space.

Bashy Bashy

What software are you using? I have nero and they have a program called Nero Recode. It will compress the video to fit on the dvd. The quality level will determine just how much you can fit on one. I am able to put a full movie on a single layer dvd and so far its really not a noticeable degradation.

I'm sure they also have some program to fit a movie to the dvd. I'm not familiar with how roxio works though.

So I will have to lower the quality? Damn, I didnt even think the quality was that good to start, I'm gonna hate to see it at less then half of what it is now.

Will have to play around with it tonight.

I use a program call DVDSHRINK it will rip the dvd and encode it and make sure it will fit on a regualr 4.7gb disc or it can rip DL DVD's which is 8.5Gb. You can even customize what size you want, bigger or smaller. Pm me if you have any trouble finding it i think i have it somewhere.

Last night I figured out how to make it record at a lower grade. And I cant take that. Sound does not match mouth, and it acts like its having to "buffer" every couple seconds.

Gonna have to find some double layer ones and give them a try and see if my dvd player will play them.

With recode I honestly can't see the difference between the original and the copy. Are you copying a dvd or making your own video? If you're copying try to do it with just the movie no extras. It won't compress as much.

I burn lots of DVDs do a lot of recording and demos with my company for some marketing, and i dumped roxio, it just didn't do the job. I have the nero 9 ultra and that is a great program, it will work! I was using nero 8 ultra and really like it, and 9 recently came out and is fantastic! you can pick up the nero 8 at Best buy for like 50.00 on sale, i paid a hundie for it in it's prime, 9 is a hundie and change but very nice to work with.

Every time I have tried to install nero, my pc would not boot up again after the install. So Ive never had a chance to actually use it. I think my current drive came with nero, but I never even attempted to install it.
