i was updating my repair/maintinence logs on the GTA today and did some quick math. i have owned the car a full three years now, (our official three year anniversary is tomorow, 11/20/0 and i devided the ammount of money i have spent on the car (thats the purchase price, plus all maintinence, oil changes and light bulbs right up to LS1 brakes and headers, every dime spent) and i figured out my cost of ownership is 244 dollars a month.
i could lease a new mustang for less.
....but i don't.
in case anyone is interested the v6 car has averaged 107 a month since i purchased it in 2003. the farther you get form the initial investment the cheaper the car gets. ...unless you are making power. |

Some of us just stash our receipts and don't add that magical figure.
Tony, does that include gas and insurance? |

Well I'd be afraid to add mine up. I've owned it since April.
Purchase price 1300.
New radiator before even driving it home.
New heater blower
New starter
New trans mount
New tires
New air filter
New assorted parts for cooling system, rad hoses, clamps etc
Tune up including all tune parts, fuel filter plugs wires etc etc. Believe it or not it looked like all that stuff was original equipment. Had tune up done at shop cause I was away from home when the fuel filter took a crap on me and it was either get it done then and there or tow it home. opted to just get it done. fuel filter had chunks of rust pouring out. Why would a person let a car go 17 years and never hold a wrench up to it??
Needs paint
Needs interior (carpet seats etc)
Needs T-top seals it leaks a little, doesn't flood in there, just enough to be annoying, but thats where rust grows.
Needs stereo
Needs wheels (rubbed against too many curbs. sure he wouldn't rub a wrench against it, but he never met a curb he didn't like.)
And oh how the list goes on.
I'm sure I could have bought one of these for what I've spent so far.
Here
But then I wouldn't have a third gen would I. |

Jeez, I'm probably around ten grand including purchase price, not including gas and insurance. The Merc has cost me and my brother about six grand already.
One time I figured it out to around $40,000 spent on cars since I was 11 years old. That included everything though: purchase price, gas, insurance, maintenance, and speed parts. |

oooooh, mine is cheap
i think it was like $1300?like 8 years ago? (96 months)
(i guess i was in 4th grade, lol)
and like 1000 in body work,
2300/96=$23.958 a month
the only thing i have had to replace was a few alternators and a few batteries of course, this also means it doesn't have any go-fast mods _________________ -Donald

The 92 I've had for 11 years this month. I don't want to think about the money spent on it in those years - wheels/tires, interior, a couple of stereo systems, new motor, couple clutches, bodywork/paint, electronic toys, etc, etc, etc... _________________ 92 Camaro

Maybe we should have a thread asking who has owned ( started paying for ) their F body the longest?
I bought my 87 IROC in 1991. I added up all of the reciepts that had acumulated for ten years and came to the conclusion that I could have purchased a used 1991 ZR-1 and probably been happier. Ehh, I still like the looks of the IROC better.. |

I'm looking at your sig picture with the close up of "big ass hood" and those are some insanely straight gaps for being a swap meet hood with no known history. Wow. Did you have a lot of work done to it or just have it sanded/sprayed/slapped on? |

Sanded, sprayed, slapped on. A slight bit of clearancing by myself around the headlights and height adjustment using factory stops. The thing supposedly sat in the guys garage for the last 15 years.
