Removing the manifolds was the tough part for me, especially with the heat shield in the way and covering some of the bolts. I have the Edelbrock TES and the driver side went in pretty easy from the top, but I still had to put some of the bolts in from the bottom. Passenger side had to go in from the bottom, I had to remove the starter to make room and all the bolts were installed from the bottom, I also broke my fan switch with this one. I still haven't replaced the accessory brackets that had to come off to do the install. _________________ 92 Camaro

So you only had to remove the starter on the passenger side?
The instructions say you may have to jack up the engine a little bit... |

I have the same headers, John and I bought them on a package deal.
The right head exhaust manifold uses the very last exhaust manifold bolt. The one you will use it there right by it and it's tapped and ready to go. (you will understand what I mean when you get into this) But...........it's got years and years worth of rust and crud in that bolt hole. Do yourself a big favor, get a 3/8" x 18 tap and chase all the exhaust manifold bolts on the heads after pulling the stock manifolds off. Makes the job much easier.

Hey thanks for the advice, Ill pick one up.
Anything you would suggest to prep the manifold bolts to come off?
Any penatrant or something? |

Yeah. Night before working on it, go hit all the bolts with penetrating oil. Especially the bolts that connect to the exhaust pipe! |

Better yet, do it two nights in a row! I've broken off more manifold bolts than I care to talk about. Don't forget to spray the y-pipe to manifold connection either and hit them with a small wire brush where you can. Work them off, if you feel them getting tighter, run them back in, then out again. Broken manifold bolts suck... _________________ 1990 IROC-Z, 383 HSR, 3.70 9-Bolt

Hey Derek...good to see you got the headers.
To get the exhaust bolts off go ahead and use a torch and get the bolt nice and hot. Should come right off. That's what I did. Penetrate doesn't do a whole lot. _________________ 1998 Grand Prix GT | 12.91 @ 103 - Sold/Retired

That would be cool...
If I could get my hands on a torch, I dunno if I have enough room on the passenger side to get a torch in there. |

A pencil torch is pretty narrow. Try one of those. _________________ 1998 Grand Prix GT | 12.91 @ 103 - Sold/Retired

| Don't worry about torching it. They'll break off before you'd need to worry about a torch. Torch em if they were going to be re-used and you don't want to deal with broken bolts. Since you're replacing the manifolds, sometimes it's easier to break the bolt off! |

just be sure to watch the fingers. sounds like a recipe for a burn!

Yikes! I could see doing that for the bolts on the Y-pipe but I dunno about the manifolds, sounds pretty risky. |

| Working exhaust hot isn't as bad as it sounds. Just use a wrench and a rag and you'll be fine. |

Well there goin on tomarrow!
So im expecting to possibly remove the starter, i'll need a 3/8x18' tap to chase threads, a lil heat, and alot of swearing.
Any other last minute advice? |

| i'd use a thread chaser rather than a tap. personally there's less chance of screwing up the threads... i live in SE portland like 15 minutes from aloha if you need to borrow one, or need a hand. i've done headers on a few cars. |
