I'm getting ready to dissasemble the Double Pumper I bought not long ago and rebuild it.

Its got some surface rust in some areas, and some serious discoloration inside the carb, probably from years of use.

I'm trying to find a cleaning solution that will take most of the carbonized buildup and discoloration out and not completely ruin the dichromatic finish on it.

If I do have to strip the finish off in order to get all the gunk off, is there a way I can restore it, or basically get it back to looking like it hasn't had years of use?

Any suggestions guys? Will Castrol superclean be too abrasive?

Your carb has no finish left. It's going to look old. Period.

Soak it in pieces, in gasoline, with a cover (not sealed) for a day or two. Then clean it with brushes, carb cleaner, air.

I used brake clean, 22awg wire, brass brush, and a razor. Wish I could do something about the finish.
