Well after a few weeks delay (grrrr Evil or Very Mad) I have the parts ordered to put the engine back together for the GTA. Could be up to two weeks before everything is here but progress is good.

Here are the not quite perpendicular valves that made contact with the piston when my rod let loose.

In a completely unrelated story, my work day today consisted of driving out to our Leaning Juniper Wind Farm (outside Goldendale, WA) to tour the site with some of the other managers in my department. I will have better pictures in the next day or so but here are a few from my phone...

Beautiful day in the gorge

From the base of one of the towers. Still hard to get the scale of these things.

This is a bit better for scale. The smallish looking person is me standing in front of a single blade that is on the ground with a turbine in the background.

These particular units are RePower turbines rated at 2 Megawatts each. Most of the wind farms we are putting up use GE or Vestas turbines rated at 1.5 Megawatts.

Thought you might find it interesting.

The piston did a number on those valves. Good to hear there's some progress - little is better than none Cool

I drove by a similar wind farm near Barstow I think it was when I was in transferred to Seal Beach in the Navy. Those windmills are huge. I found a picture of one in sections, one on a transport rig...

Well better late than never (ordering the parts).

When I lived in cali and every year driving back I'd also go through huge farms of windmills and never realized how large they were until one time getting up close. Crazy!

Everything else is good. Just need to replace the valves. The master is going to show me how to lap the valves which will be a new experience for me.

Ain't this hobby grand?

Cool

well if you bent the valves that bad, it had to do some damage to the seats and or guides..... I work at aluminum head rebuilders, and my dad owns it, so if you wanted to we could pressure test the head or both, just to make sure, and check the guide clearance, valve height, and vacum test the seat to valve face. We can do it after hours or on a weekend so you don't have to pay for it. Just a thought...... Cuz lapping usually isn't the best idea if you replacing the valves.

I seem to be dumping money into the wrong end of the hobby. I just paid my lawyer another $1500 for my last reckless driving. Crying or Very sad Intercooler and ceramic coating were going to be part of that money... Oh well...
