now THAT would be cool.........we'll talk about this later Cool
the new 5.7 hemis are actually pretty cool,nothing like the 426 of yesteryear,but they hold there own with todays efi smallblocks..

alotta the ram guys complain about them,expecting srt10,or lightning performance from them,which is WAY to much to expect. the quickest stock truck ive seen with the hemi is the std cab shortbed,they usually run in the low mid 14s,and weigh about 4400 pounds.

same in case for the new magnums,they weigh about the same as a std cab shortbox ram,and they run in the low-mids 14s,plus the magnum cars get the variable displacement system,claims of up to 30% MPG increase...

the again farshin,a V10 swap is a possibility,there VERY common in the 2500 ram's,310 hp and 450 tq stock,its OH so easy to get them to the majical 500hp mark,plus there iron block,incase yua wanna run boost later on..

i could talk about this all day long haha Laughing

In jumps Dewey, to dangle it over your heads.

Mark seems to know his stuff. I mean when you compare the magnums of now, to the big blocks of yesteryear. The Magnums really hold their own.

I mean a 4.7L makes our huge Durango haul ass. I imagine a nicely modded 5.9 would just rip up the tires in a Charger.

blech.

its an oldschool mopar... don't ruin it by doing something like that Wink

as for the Kitt car... there is one or two places online (excluding random ebay people) that sell the dash kits and nose pieces and even the electronics (down to the little green/red/yellow voicebox) ... but the entire kit is something like 8k when all is said and done (if not a little more)
heh...

the new magnums are rated around the same/OR higher then ALOT of the old big blocks..

i dont see how its ruining it...that would be like ruining a 69 camaro by throwing an LS1 in it...

by the time he got the big block,and had it rebuilt...its GOING to be expensive...big block anything is spendy...big block mopar is way too pricy.

nvm the fact aaron,almsot all of the chargers were SMALLBLOCK 318 cars...

the only other swap that would be as cool,would be the new 5.7 hemi..those can be had for around 4 grand{sometimes less} with the ecm,harness and trans.
well, for one, like dewey said, most mopar people are completely different than f-body people... I could see going 383 or 440, you can get those engines rather easilly and not have to do much work (you can find crate engines of the damn things if you look)... but I'd also say, go with the new hemi.
thats one engine I'd not say no to ...

but I'm just not a 360 magnum fan...
I'd rather put a chevy engine into a mopar than a 360 magnum LMAO

but yes I am fully aware that a lot were 318...
but i'm also aware that there are better engines than the 360 imo.

but of course, that's just my opinion, you've got yours as well.

to some people... putting a 360 magnum into an old mopar is like putting a 350 into a 1970 datsun 240z (if you're a nissan person, haha)... it's almost that bad

aaron do you have any experience with the mag5.9s? doubtful..

lets also factor in that,im GIVING farshin a magnum 5.9 if he wants it..but im leaving it up to him.

with the budget given,the 5.9 make perfect sense,there so plentiful its sickening,parts availability is immense,any daimler/chrysler shop could wrench on it{if need be}

another problem i forgot to mention is the magnums use 4 bolts per cyl,instead of 5 like gm's do,easily gotten around using arp head studs{like i had to}

right now im running about 15 psi{yes the blowers back on} on a WOT manual shift,about 13 psi if i let it shift it self in drive,and i havent experienced any problems thus far..most of the guys on DTO are in the 12-20 psi range,a few of the turbo guys are running more..

stock bottom end is good to about 500 hp and around 6500-6800 {depending on HP level} the oil system is strong,my 5.9 holds about 60 psi cold,50 hot.

plus you could find some dakota, 5.9 R/T emblems...and it wouldnt be rice Laughing

Some of the strongest blocks to ever come out of Michigan had "only" 4 bolts per cyl, (Pontiac blocks) and that is viewed as a more positive thing due to applying even stresses around the cylinder instead of uneven stresses like the Chevy blocks do with 5 bolts per cyl. So much so, that a "stress plate" is not even required when boring/honing a Pontiac block.

I don't know about the rest of the blocks though, just the Ponchos...

Definitely a proponent of ARP parts though!! Laughing

Funny Mark, I've heard the same things Aaron has. Even read an article where an engineer who helped create the 360 was interviewed. They asked the man about a supercharged 360 someone had built, about 500hp. The engineer said that really surprised him. He said the 360 was a poor motor and wasnt built to handle that much hp, or more than about 5500rpm max. He was tottally amazed the motor had held up for a whole year.

When the guy who helps create something doesnt think much of it, makes me nervous about using it.

well...i knwo TONS of people{not just online} who own rams with the magnum motors,and ONLY complaint ive ever heard of,is the plenum gasket issue,which is easily fixed,but D/C shouldnt have designed it that way.

the RPM issue you mention,in my opinion is complete BS,when you buy a mopar performance PCM,it raises the rev limtier to 6200 RPM,of which i had in my truck when i was at your place in the sand,im sure you remember me tickling the rev limiter QUITE a few times. im in no way saying they are the best motors around,there not,but in my experiences,these motors are tough,ive owned my ram since feburary,and not a single problem,{only problem thus far is grenading the D44..}

i rev the DOGCRAP outta my motor,allllllllllll the time,it doesnt leak oil,it doesnt burn oil,it doesnt spitter,doesnt sputter.i couldnt ask for more

the magnum motor is almsot identical in ways to the new vortec{96+ traditional SBC}...its an old school block with modern type heads,intake..

i jsut dont see how he could bash them so harshly,maybe im jsut really lucky *Shrug*

i think that guy might have gotten fired and is severly butthurt over it Laughing Very Happy
