ok.. so about a month ago, i was driving my camaro at about 7 in the morning, every morning i drive about 30 miles give or take a bit.. the morning started out great, nice day.. birds churpin... sunshine shine'n... then WOOOSH 70 mph down the freeway my t top flew off... so i go pick up what's left of it (half of the lexan was still in tact) and i got the locking part and what-not... so i just say whatever i'll pick a new one up later.. well i get about 10 miles from where i'm going, then my car goes KUNK! and i was like wtf, am i outta gas? (gas gauge didn't work nor did the milage) so i was by an exit to get gas, and i pull to a stop sign, i just slow down then try to make it up the slight hill.. and the car dies... i try to start it and go, won't do anything.. so i have my girlfriend steer and i push the car up and park it on the side of the road at around 8... *fastfoward* so at around noon, i finally get a hold of someone to hook me up with gas money, i put $20 in, and the car still wouldn't work.. i then waited until i could get a tow truck out there at around 4... i get the car home.. it sits for about 3 weeks before we finally get a chance to work on it, and the fuel pump was bad.. so we hit up a local junkyard and pick up a sending unit and fuel pump for $5.. instead of dropping the rear axle, my grandpa say's "just lower the tank a bit, and use the hole the previous owners cut above the tank.. soooo, i listened and did that, flared the pipes, and had to put ruber hoses on 1 of the lines, i got it done late sunday, drove it, worked like new, and my gas gauge worked.. well tonight at around 10.. my and a bunch of friends are all hanging out, we went to the local canyon and hung out, when we decide to leave, the car will start fine, and idle fine, but when i went to give it gas to go, it died.. repeated twice, died.. so we waited for a tow.. after an hour of the guy trying to find us, he finally succedeeds, i was happy, we towed it to his house, and it's sitting there now till me and him can get together tomarrow and fix it.. i'm hopeing just 1 of the hoses messed up and it will be an easy fix.. if it's anything more.. i'll go crazy.. i'm almost considering selling it... and driving an HHR, till i find a car i trust more.. cause a 230k mile engine.. and all the bad Ju-Ju that i've been running into is almost enough to scare me away from it.. i'm thinking maybe there's just a bad aura around the car i love oh so much..
btw, that was alot more typing then i thought it was going to be, haha, sorry if i bore you if you took the time to read it.. i just needed to let my third-gen family know and need some support :'( haha.. _________________

my '86 was alot less trouble prone.. i am almost wishing i didn't sell it and fixed that one up instead.. and yea, i'd probley be a little.. hessitant.. unless that was 1 owner that put those miles on, and i knew it was well maintaned.. mine has had like 6-8 owners from what i was told before it fell into my hands.. _________________

Hey man, take it from me...
Sometimes these cars can be a pain in the behind.
Sometimes you feel like nothing will ever get done, you fix something and it breaks again.
But if you're like me and a lot of the other people on here, you've spent way too much time and money to sell it. It wouldn't be cost effective.
Plus you love it, right? Just stick it out, the more you fix, the better it'll be. You won't have to worry about the stuff you fixed breaking anytime soon, as long as you do it right.
Sometimes I think owning Camaros has taught me a lot of things. Patience and perseverance being two of them.
Gotta learn to be more stubborn than your car... There's brighter days ahead, I'm sure.
I haven't found them yet either though. |

Dude, I feel your pain. Every time I fix something on this car it seems to spit something back out at me. Better, stronger, faster and all that jazz.
Good luck and keep your nose in it. Once you get the main gremlins worked out, you'll just have to keep an eye on the small ones. _________________

junkyard fuel pump?
buy new. GM has discontinued our in tank pumps, but a cyclone pump will work. (higher pressure too) |

i wanted to switch it out, but i didn't pay for any of the stuff, and we had a brand new one sitting in the box, buy my grandpa said to just put it in and if it works he's going to return the new one... im waiting for the guy who has my car right now to get off work so i can go over there, i'm thinking the lines just failed i hope i don't have to mess with that dang pump and sending unit again..it's nice having a working gas gauge tho, i know i wasn't just low on fuel haha _________________

Did you have the top locked down tight? Just curious.
Junk yard fuel pump??? Dude.....
230K miles... that car is pretty much done. You're going to be repairing stuff all the time now. If you want a reliable car then sell it.
HHR??? What's plan 'B' or 'C'? |

see when i said ALMOST i met like i want to but i don't.. the car looks so clean now it's going to be hard to part with (that and i've put close to 6 grand into it total including price of the car) and i doubt i'll even get half for it.. i'm almost tempted to just get it running this time, then next problem, park it till i can find an affordable engine, transmission, and obviously the funds to more then likely rebuld both.. and someone who can help me do it since my grandpa is always outta town, and i am not car smart enough to even know where to begin with that stuff...
and as for the HHR remark... haha i couldn't agree with you more, i had to drive that car the whole time mine was at maaco, and am driving it again to wyoming this weekend.. definitly not somthing that's fun, nor comfortable to drive.. and when you pull up next to a cute girl, it's just not the same as pulling up in the camaro.. _________________

Pfft. Whatever. I'd rock an HHR as a side car when I break the bird. The 08's come with the same turbo powerplant as the cobalt SS's (276hp) and pretty sporty seats. My coworkers dad has a black one, tinted windows, debadged, black chrome grilles and it looks pretty sharp for a commuter'esque car and will hang with a lot of faster cars (and toast almost all stockish thirdgens.)
Although I'd rather rock a solstice or something as a side car... |

I rock a Ford Taurus wagon as a side car! Actually, it is my daily driver now which means the Camaro gets a well deserved rest! Still, I love my wagon (even though its a Ford) and have already started modding it! _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6
