So i just put in this 9 bolt posi disc a few months ago and just started to notice a quiet howl coming from the rear. i climbed under it a few days ago and noticed a few drips of oil on the bottom of the case.

my thoughts are that enough oil has leaked out that there is poor lubrication and that is the source of the howl. I'm going to pull the cover off and replace the gasket and load it up with RTV in hopes that that fixes the problem.

thoughts? am i on the right track?

Mine makes quite a bit of noise too, gets pretty pronounced at about 40mph. I also have a small leak at the pinion where I need to get the seal replaced. I think my whine is the way the gears are meshing, I replaced the rear as a whole and didn't pull the posi out.

What confuses me is that this just started. i've driven with this combo for quite a while now and its just now started making noise. hmm... we'll see what i can find today after work when i tear the thing apart.

PS, i can't remember off hand how much oil i'm supposed to use?

You use as much as it takes Laughing After the oil additive you fill it until it comes out of the hole you fill it with. about 2 bottles (3 pints?) for a 10 bolt.

I would research whether or not you should add the posi additive with a 9 bolt since it has a cone style posi.
