So Ive had this rear disc axle in the car for over a month now(92 formula axle). The left outter is not completely touching as I still have rust on the rotor where it should be shiny. So I dunno what is going on, but I need to take it apart to inspect. Hopefully its just a fubar pad.
First glance, WTF, how do you take this off?
After reading the GM book. Appears I have to remove all the ebrake stuff... cable..bracket. I'm only seeing one nut to remove the bracket. And on the right side, its snapped off. So something else is holding it. Then I can access both caliper bolts like the fronts. Any tips?
I have read on TGO that I can remove these black blobs off the bracket?
All tips and advice welcome. This is next on my to-do list after installing my new drivers fender. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Apparently the pads aren't worn, or set to the rotor yet. Mine started out the same way prior to my master/booster problem which I hope I've temporarily fixed. They were shiney toward the edge and still a bit of rust toward the center. A month though does seem like a long tme, depending on how often you drive the car. _________________ 92 Camaro

You depress the ebrake spring and slide the cable out from the bracket.
The caliper comes off with 2 bolts. Then 1 extra bolt for the banjo fitting for the brake line itself. |

I drive it on sunny days only. But I also left it on during one of my dragtrack runs.
IMO, it should be worn in. All the other pads are?
But I also need to fix that snapped bolt. Would like to do some cleaning, etc.

You live in Arizona, isn't that EVERY DAY?!
like paul said, there is a spring that you need to pull off and then the ebrake cable slides out with a bit of cursing. after that the 2 caliper bolts and the big one in the middle. hope this helps.

AR is Arkansas, not Arizona(AZ).
Big bolt in the middle?
To me it looked like I could only access the top caliper bolt. The bottom one some crap had to be removed. Which I am assuming as the manual said is the ebrake crap. But I didnt see how to remove that? _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

LOL not sure how i messed that up, but i've been thinking you were in Arizona for the past year.
Yeah there should be a big bolt in the middle that is holding all the ebrake crap on, it is also how you adjust the ebrake...i think. But once that is off you should have access to the second caliper bolt.
could you snap a picture? maybe then we can understand whats holding you back.

| I don't know if the e-brake is different on later years, but on my '87 I removed the spring and cable from the bracket, and was then able to swing it out of the way so I could access the caliper bolts. |

I wish I was in Arizona. Maybe there would be some half decent lookin cuties that arnt all cracked out. Then also in a place where shizzle gets done.
Anyway...The ebrake on the steel caliper is different then the alumns. I know that by some pics back when I was installing them.
Yea, I should beable to snap some pics later tonight. I'll take a better look also. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Ok, got it off. I guess GM intended for you to tilt the caliper rather then unbolt it? Cause you cant get to the bottom bolt head. Even after the caliper is off, I dont see how you get to it?
Anyway. Ebrake bracket is bent. Was rubbing on the ebrake lever. So that would explain that.
As for the odd wearing. It appears someone before glued the pads on. When they were changed, the glue was not cleaned off. Or I hope that was it. Cleaned up, put back on. Will have to hunt for a new bracket.

They are the PBR's that came on the 91/92 model. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

That is almost exactly what mine look like. I'm not sure about the piston. But we should be the same since mine is 94. 91-97 were all the aluminum PBR's correct? I never take mine all the way out though, I just unbolt one and swivel it back. I think it's a 13mm bolt and thats it. I couldn't get mine all the way back because that circular weight deal hits my axle so I took it off It's been fine and I didn't notice it was missing.... _________________ E30

After searching, it was 89 to 96/97'ish were all PBR's.
So you just pivoted yours too?
Yea, a few people on TGO have removed the black things. Gonna try and find new ebrake cable brackets and remove them....
since they were the same up to 96/97, I wonder what year that junkyard car was........... _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

| I'm pretty sure that the 98+ have 12x1" rears with a drum ebrake. Its supposed to be fun for ebrake slides but I'm not rushing out to get it. I just got my LS1 (98+) front brakes, I'll start with that! |

I know Caprices/Impalas had the 'drum-in-hat' rear E-brake starting in 96. I wonder if F-bodies got it at the same time? _________________

What part?
The brakes are back together. Havent drove it because the front clip is apart due to a new fender that doesnt have bondo or 7 layers of paint
While the tire was off, I found I have 2 housing staples in that tire.
Not working on it tonight because I have leaving in 15min for a graduation. One of the models I worked with is valdictorian(sp)
Plan to drive it this weekend. |
