Well it is finally time to retire my trusty daily driver. 1985 Frieghtliner with untold miles (good chance it has over a million miles on it) and a long list of problems. Last straw came this winter when the engine broke a retainer on one of the roller lifters letting it turn sideways on the cam. We just pulled the broken lifter and dropped in another to keep it running. Now that I am getting back to work I can hear the tapping noise louder and louder as the lobe is going flat. The same thing happenned to it 2 years ago on a differant cylinder and it wound up costing $6000 in parts and labor to do a cam change. Stoopid Cat engine.
Went and picked up a 1992 Kenworth today. It is sweet, and only has 406,000 miles on it. Huge change, no more exhaust in the cab or giant air leaks around the doors and windows. Even specced better with an 18 speed vs a 13 speed and 4.33 gears vs 3.73's. Will do alot better since some places I go have really steep hills that I have to be pulled up with a loader. Sometimes even that wasn't enough.
Now I have to swap all 10 of my aluminum wheels off of the other truck and I'm ready to roll in style this year.

Sweet diggs man! So my buddy Jerome and I got to wondering on our road trip, how much does a semi cost? We say an awful lot of them on the road between Seattle and Cali.
and what is the cadillac of semis? we saw a quite a few of those nice newer Volvos.

Looks like that one is setup for a flatbed?
No sleeper, so you must do short drives? _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

flat bed sometimes, lowbed for equipment sometimes, right now mostly haul scrapmetal.
When the economy doesn't suck I do mostly road construction work, hauling gravel and asphalt. This year it seems there is no projects going due to the lack of funds. |
