Well, my sister is about to get her permit, so mom was going to give her the saturn. Despite my warnings that the saturn is a death trap, telling my mother they crumple like pop cans during a side impact, she insisted it was a good little car. 30 mpg and a quart of oil per tank.

I totaled it yesterday. Smart move eh? I always hated driving it, but when i needed to haul more than one passenger mom offered it to me. I rear ended a Mercadies 320.

The guy was an ass hole, called the police even though you couldnt hardly see any damage on his car. what ever. The saturn on the other hand was crunch bad. Both fenders were pushed back, the hood buckled, and you could see all the packing material it used for a bumper. Headlights were gone. You know the drill.

I was totaly at fault and all, but that car had full coverage, dont ask me why, but it did. There is a Fiero for sale near our house for only $1200. Looks like its in good shape and it runs, i think that should be charice's first car. Any one got any info on them as far as fuel millage and safety?

If you were anti Saturn due to safety concerns, a Fiero will be a step in the wrong direction. I believe they rank up there with Pinto's when it comes to death traps. Laughing

They have all sorts of saftey issues! They are exciting though, if you are going to die, a melted up nasty mangled fireball of a fiero, would be a fun way to go!

Didn't they fix the catching fire thing in some of the alter model years?

I was reading wikipidia, it says that if you let it run low on oil, the rod breaks, and then it leaks oil onto the exhaust, causing it to catch fire. GM installed oil drip catchers on the ones that went to the recall.

definitely something to check.

Cool little car though, and she would love it....

I don't know that a fiero is best car in the world to learn to drive on, being rear-engined, they are not going to be crazy forgiving, in case she starts to loose control.

Sorry, I am not sure what your question was, I am still laughing about your first post.

not bad for a kid that hasnt had his fist day on the new job and shizzle.

God. I swear this has been a terrible month.

My question was if any one had one, how are they for a new driver, and what kind of millage do they get?

its true, i have a buddy that loves them! he has 2. but they are hard to control in the rain. if the back starts to step out, you've already lost it and you are going all the way around. That would be very traumatic for a new driver.

just my .02

Ive heard several times the 2.5ls catch fire.

Also something about ones with speakers in the headrest catch fire.

As for milage, I am guessing it should get decent. But not as much as that saturn.

Ive only drove one around a parking lot that had a lambo body kit on it. Dunno if it was the kit, or the car. But it was a bitch to get into.

You can do way better for 1200 bucks. Get her an old Honduh or something if you want a cheap car with good gas mileage.

I had to do a tune-up on one once. I thought it was fun to drive but swore I would never even get near one again after the nightmare of doing a tune-up. I can't remember the details. I think the post tramatic stress has erased it from my memory. Shocked

"GM tests have shown that running these 1984 cars with low engine oil level can cause connecting rod failure which may lead to an engine compartment fire...Pontiac is aware of 260 fires attributable to the condition, along with ten reported minor injuries."[6]

-Wikipedia

I can only hope your mom makes a better decision than a fiero for your sister, seriously man, I would give a Fiero to someone I hated and wanted dead.

If I had a Mercedes and you rear ended me I would be an ass also. If you rearended me in my 87 IROC I would have been a bigger ass. Cant blame the guy, pay attention.
As far as a loved one driving a Fiero, have at it. I drove several models of this firebird replacement in the mid 80's and never felt unsafe. Even the V6 GT's with a 5 Speed manual were never able to break the tires loose. They were the 1980's corvair. Some people in the media never got over the origenal.

I know i should have been paying attention, my bad, but now the guy is claiming injury's 48 hours later, I couldn't have been doing more than 15 mph when i actually impacted him.
