greetings from sunny Los Angeles. for those who do not know i will be living down here until mid June for work. got in last night. drove the veesix car down. gas millage and photos coming soon. i decided to go the scenic route. i took hwy 26 to 6, and then from tillimook to LA i was on US-101.

learned a few interesting things about highways. unlike the interstate, there is not a 24 hour gas station every couple exits. in fact, from coos bay to California you cannot get gas after midnight. there are also few hotels that are staffed 24 hours. Thursday night i found myself in Port Orford OR, with an empty tank and no hotels open. i slept in the car in the parking lot of a chevron until 6:30 am when they opened. from there i drove on.. and on.. and on.. stopping every few hours to sleep for an hour. i took some pictures along the way of my car in front of scenery. got some nice shots of the golden gate bridge.

in a little town i can't remember the name of i stopped for a burger in this bar, had live music, and root beer on tap. quite a nice place. as i am leaving i get pulled over, ready for this... improper display of a license plate (front windshield, and rear plate cover). this guy must have been bored. no ticket.

took a detour off 101 to drive the "vally of the giants" highway. it is the two lane road that snakes through the redwood forest. my plan was to get a photo under that tree you can drive through, but a portion of the road was closed.. that portion. so no picture.

car did great. on Friday it ran for 10 hours with only one 10 minute break for fuel. some of that was hard running too. that valley of the giants is like one big rally road course. Very Happy

Tons of the roads along the coast are fun as hell!

You cruised right passed my home town. A couple minutes south of SF off aways on highway 1 along the water.

Wonderful trip!!! I made it last weekend! Portland to LA. Al the coast is a nice drive, above all Big Sur. I start the trip Friday untill Sunday. I made a stop in Garberville, one in San Simeon and the last one in Long Beach. Smile

still in Oregon here. these are just outside Port Orford OR. took taken at about 6:30 am, before the sun actually came up.

these two were about 50 miles later, in CA.

i wanted a picture under that drive through tree, but that section of the road was closed due to flooding. a guy drove by as i was taking this and looked at me like i was nuts... if he only knew.

you should have gone down that road anyway...

I would have.

just push all the signs and cones off to the side and if somebody stops you for whatever reason (I mean, who would, it's closed right?) just say you didn't think the road was closed anymore because the sign was moved Surprised

flooded out was what one of the signs said later. (i rejoined that hwy at the next 101 interchange).

so the car made it down with no problems. and i am driving around town here and it starts to act funny. sputtering and poping off idle. i think it must be the heat.. i look down and i am low on gas, like 1/8th tank. so i fill up... it continues.. i notice the charge guage has dropped to 10 volts Shocked

WTF? new battery as of two weeks ago, new alternator about two years ago.

so i pull into an "vato zone" on sunset blvd, pull the alt. they say it's good, so i buy a new battery (outright, no baxters down here means no guarantee). it is now at around 12. i head to work and it continues dropping.. by the time i make it home it's sputtering again and the headlights are too dim to be any good.

so i have today off, i call my uncle who works as a service manager for a local GM dealership. he orders one in and gives it to me CHEAP.. unfortunately when i get it back here it has the wrong pulley. i try to change it but end up rounding that little alen head. so i call a local parts store and source one in stock. parts store is only a mile away, bot los feliz is all hills, so i call a cab. i get there and send the cabbie away (10$ fare for 1.1 miles!!!) as i am now out of cash. i get in there and the parts store one also has the v-belt pulley. but they are able to change it out to my surp pulley with an air gun (wish my gramma had an air gun). i then walk a mile back home, in the 81* heat.

hopefully this will fix it. i have allready checked the battery connections and stuff.

That sucks about the alternator dude......

I said it before, but those 16" formula wheels really make that car look a lot better.
