Does anyone have or had one of these cars? I just picked up a 92 4dr Sentra XE. Omg its tiny! Its intended use is as a commuter car. Right now its averaging 30mpg and cost me $30 to fill it up. Thats twice the gas mileage of my camaro's and my tahoe! It will not be riced, as you could imagine from my honda rant. I'm just looking for a brain to pick if I have problems with it in the future.

I am currently using a 1994 Sentra GXE off of the car lot. I get 400 miles per tank on an 11 gallon or so tank. 5 Speed of course. I have the original window sticker, they advertise 30mpg City and 40mpg Highway. Slow and simple, it gets me to college just perfectly.

I have an older "silver mint" colored one. Wish I could borrow this one, Dad says no Crying or Very sad

Dudes, so I bought the car on Monday and it was empty, go figure. So I took it to the gas station and the tank was FULL at $30 and 10 gallons. And to make it even better, I put 90 miles on the tank on the first 1/4 tank! This is exactly the car I needed for commuting. 30mpg should be easy.

Nissan's usually get pretty good milage.... which makes me wonder why the xterra gets such rancid milage. Claming 15/20.... for a std trans. subtract up to 5 for an automatic!

That sucks. Well, I'm going to do eco oriented mods to the nissan. I'm already looking at getting a lower lift cam with less duration. The GA16DE engine was a lesser engine to the SR20DE so getting optional parts for the GA is harder. That and skinnier, higher treadwear, higher pressure tires.

Laughing I feel dirty. Lol.

ahahah....import tuning disease starts with the first symptom:

Knowing and quoting engine codes! lol

Enjoy the car, I am really impressed with mine. I just went 105 miles on my quarter tank...I keep trying to break my own records each week. I drive from Port Townsend to Olympia twice a week, a 96 mile cruise. So its fun to see just how thrifty I can be. Trust me, this is no substitute for when I use to see how fast I could get to Olympia...101 South is such a curvy sexy road and the Sentra has the finesse of a John Deere tractor when it comes to carving curves. Very Happy

But, this is what well made Japanese cars are for, functionality.

What could I do to get better gas mileage? I've thought about lowering the front to change attack and making an air damn. Is there any fuel stuff to do? I think that changing things other than a cam would make it have a lower torque curve and also increase fuel consumption. If I could hack into the computer I could change the target afr to 15:1 or so, that would help.

I think lowering COD, decrease rolling resistance, then engine mods. The car already almost coasts uphill as it is though. Lol.

Easy there, you are going to completely void your ricer rant if you lower that car. But hey, I won't hate on you too much, I had a modified Miata that made me happy.

However, do not touch the sentra's internals or ride height. My year may be more efficient (1994), but here is what you do first. New oem air filter, stock plugs, and some NGK wires. Ensure your clutch is strong and your tires are inflated well. Good oil always helps. My driver currently has 168,000 miles on it.

You have to remember I get to highway cruise to Olympia, so my mpg would be the same as you with city driving. I short shift the hell out of this car, because third gear "pull" is more like third gear snooze, so I just drive like a grandma. Adjust your driving for the lack of power and fun, and you will see results. Remember, this car came factory with amazing gas mileage, just help it run as well as it did when it was new.

oh man, last thing I would want to do is void my rant! I am no hypocrit.

At that low of an engine speed, would a restrictive intake help or hurt mileage? I think it would depend on the way the fuel maps are made.

Mine is a 92, so our cars are B13 chassis code which is 91-94. I am also rolling 187k miles. I'll look into getting this thing a tuneup, it might like that. Axles are $60, clutch is $100, rotors are $40, so it can't cost too much! I did a lot of research before I bought this car. Since I'm anti-honda to avoid the attention of the younger generation, the nissan fit the bill.

This guy autocrossed his and has some other good projects. I think we all need his electric motor lawn chair! Laughing Laughing

All I know is stock=40 mpg. So keep it that way and you will spend less money and have no issues other than regular maintenance.

Enjoy it man! Glad you got a nice econo box! They are the perfect compliment to a thirdgen.

Just checked,

Fuel Economy website, www.fueleconomy.gov lists the auto version of my car at 29mpg Highway compared with my five speed rating of 36. I get more than that, so I think its a little off.
