Well, I am in the market for a cheap truck, something like a k5 blazer. Because my funds are very limited, and I am building it as my daily driver, I have been thinking the L03 that came out of the camaro would be a prime candidate to power the truck. Any suggestions on cam for this fuel saver?

Would you rather get something better on gas? Any LO3 powered K5 or Silverado will net you, at best, 22mpg Highway. I know this from actual owning one. Loved the truck to death, but it was not something you would want to Daily use in the city if you were looking to save money. It was a 1995 Silverado 1/2 Ton 2WD Shortbed with the 700r4 and an L03.

Just my .02 cents, since I saw you deliver pizza, didnt want your gas stipend to be a joke.

I got fired from that job because of my loud camaro, so that isnt as important. I want to save gas, but 22 is a hell of a lot better than the 8-12 in the camaro. Also, being able to tow a small trailer with a dirt bike on it, and or haul more than 2 passengers, would rock.

Myself being 6'2, I hate having any one ride behind me, though I once did cram 6 into the blue car.

Get that camaro tuned and you'll get closer to 22.

Exhaust might help a bit too.

lol. That is actually a pretty cool reason to get fired.

Twilight is right, get exhaust and a tune, especially with a carb, maybe some hotter plugs or dizzy work and you could see great mileage

Tim, in his 89 IROC with his six speed gets almost 30 on the highway.

Are you trying to net better gas MPG from the things you have already?

If not you might just consider a cheap $400-800 4 cyl car as a daily and save the camaro's for other applications.

Dewey gets 30 on the HWY with his 5pseed TBI.

Awesome isnt it?

I vote for a cheap econo box. I know there are 1000 dollar cars out there that get 400 miles per tank. Sold one yesterday.

Didn't we all see what the plugs looked like after that?

Yeah, a K5 isn't going to see anywhere near 22mpg. You're looking at a realistic 15-18 maybe. Even with an LO3, and then you'll barely have room to get out of your own way.

L03 isnt enough power to move a heavy, non-aero dynamic ride like that.

I also doubt it would get better mpg then your camaro.

Yes, but I think there is more going on there. I am running the same hiway tune I have for years, and this just started happening. Even a stock LO3 is pretty capable of 26-27mpg. Just not when it is trying to lug a K5 around.

I'm with Quasi on this one, get a little toyota or honda for under $1k, if you are trying to save money. Maybe working on 2 hot rods isn't the way to go, if you are unemployed and trying to save money. Get your "stuff" together, get a job, and get some money in savings, then do the hot rodding thing.

A bike isn't practical due to weather, but the fun factor seems to make up for that. Riding season is 3 months at best.....I'm not saying it isn't appealing.

A reliable, cheap to work on, Japanese made econo box will pay for itself in time, both through gas saved and money not spent on commuting....

Just my .02

On my commute across the sound, there are some die-hard motorcycle riders who take their bikes on the ferry every day, no matter the weather (except snow of course).

Some of those guys are nuts. Cruising around on their bikes in the rain and cold. Who would subject themselves to that kind of punishment?! Wink

Well, I dont want to be going farther than 10 miles for any job I am qualified for, I mean, that allows for all of meridian and canyon road between 224th and 512.

What I am looking for is a job at Red Robbin or a Steak House as a waiter. When the most I am willing to spend is about $1000, I could either get a big ugly truck, a little ugly bike, or a car I will hate like a honda or ricer.... Gr...

I'm with the rest of these guys, commuting is a part of life, you can't really avoid it. Buy a DD, and make sure it is good running shape, then build a crazy muscle car.

Having a fast car does you no good if you're calling in sick every time it needs work. As for the motorcycle, maybe if we lived in Cali or Arizona or something it might work, but this is the land of wet roads and snow.

What about like, a V6 S10?
