New thread - instead of hijacking the thread this was started in, thought I'd post where it belongs. Laughing

I haven't figured out why, but the filler tube on my 89 leaks past the cap when the cap is on tight. I have 3 gas caps that all work correctly on my 92, but they all leak on my 89. I don't know if there is excess pressure in the tank, or the filler tube is somehow deformed. It leaks when the tank is between 3/4 to full, especially when cornering. I have, after fill up, loosened the cap when I get home, and gas will spray out past the cap.

I measured the depth of the siphon stop (if that's what it's called) on both cars at 1.4" & 1.5", and the cap is only 1" deep, so the cap doesn't bottom out prior to seating the O-ring.

Any ideas???

Excessive tank pressure? Does it blow out vapor when you open it? I guess you could try disconnecting the hardline that goes to the carbon canister and put a little air filter on it. See if that fixes it cause that would open the tank to the atmosphere.

Do you have the heatshields still under the car to protect the tank?

It does blow out vapor when I open it, but so does my 92. But the 89 will also spray fuel out when I open it when its more than about 3/4 full, also it will leak by the cap when it's on tight (or as tight as the ratchet gets).

As for the heat shield, I have to look. As many times as I've been under there, I can't remember if I've seen it there or not Confused and I just completed my exhaust under there - watched the whole process as it went in.
