What started as a wiring project, intake, timing cover, dizzy swap to take 30 days is now 70 days in and no light at the end of the tunnel.

1. Swap timing cover, get in and see it has a double roller which wont work for my project. Go get new TC, wont fit, go swap again. Get cover on.
2. Go to swap intake, didnt know about the different bolt patterns, One I got does not match my heads. I take the one I have a mod it to fit.
3. Get into the wire harness(modding a gm one to fit my needs). Find out its designed reverse of what I need. Whatever, I'm modding it anyway, just makes it a bit harder. Needed some wire diagrams I didnt have and didnt know I would need. Played hell finding them.
4. Making an EGR mount proved harder then I thought, but it got made.
5. Thought I had found some OTC plug wires (only one year car). They werent long enough, had to get some other OTC's and put a custom end on it.
6. Go to start it starts dies. Starts, dies, starts, dies. Find out the ecm I am using has anti theft, no diagram showed that. (By now its 30 days)
7. Send ecm off to a guy 3 hrs away to get that and a few other things fixed expressing my "needed it yesterday" needs. As of today, he still had not mailed it out.
8. Because of 7, I get pissed a few weeks ago, get another ecm and buy the program to mod the ecm myself. Get it started..
9. While filing with antifreeze I see holy oil leak batman!!!
10. Find out I cracked the plastic Timing cover. Order NEW cover.
11. Go to put new TC on, I rip the oil pan gasket, $hit!!!!
12. Go to borrow hoist to lift motor, dent dads truck.
13. Go to lift motor up 4-6" tonight, still cant get oil pan off. So It appears I have to pull trans off to beable to wiggle the oil pan off.
14. Go to pick up mess, door wont close due to hoist.
15. Have to take car back down off ramps to roll it, car has to be far back as possible, so now I cant get in MY tool box.
16. Go to slide hoist under car, bang, bang, bang. WTF? Car is so low, the hoist hits the cross member, so I have to jack it BACK up NOW.

When will it ever end? This wire harness/ecm swap better be f-ing worth it!!!!

So, question...........
is there ANY way possible to get the oil pan off w/o pulling trans, and w/o pulling the motor all the way out and still leave my wire harness, fuel lines, ps, etc all still hooked up?

(good news, its a 4bolt main with a windage tray. WOOT.)

I did it on my old camaro, with a stock 2 bolt main and stock oil pan. Had to jack up the motor from the balancer, unbolt the motor mounts, and unbolt the trans mount. Then from there it was just a question of "how high" lol. Remember though, you'll have to turn the balancer so you can clear the crank.

I replaced my oil pan gasket and rear main(two piece) w/o a picker. Get a felpro one piece pan gasket. Scraping the old off is the hardest part. Jacked the balancer up and the trans up.
It's a PITA, but can be done.

How high do you have to go? How high will the hoses let me go?

Spining the crank will do me no good. The wind tray is attached below that.

High enough to scrape the old out and put the new one on. The one piece rubber can go on from the outside. Stretches to slide around the whole pan.

I don't think you can get the pan off without pulling the flywheel... in car. Even then it's iffy.

Didnt think about stretching it around the pan from the outside. I was thinking trying to wiggle it between the pan and oil pump. Thanks.

I see another attempt at it tonight Twisted Evil
