Well, I been kicking this idea around, and I finally found my platform.
84 Camaro, does not run, not a Z28 but is a V8. Before it stopped running they put new brakes, starter, alternator and a new clutch in it.
They are asking 375.00 for this car.

They have the other wheel, but its got a flat tire. They said back before it quit running (a few years ago) it drove straight and all.
I think this will be perfect to drop a stroker 383 into. This way the green car can still be my daily driver, and this other camaro (which i will be re-painting) would be getting the interior removed, and dropping a 383 in would be EASY. |

Ya. I have talked to them on the phone, they SEEM honest. I am happy to see its a hard top, for my race vehicle, that is good. I was hoping to find an 85 Z28 with ground effects, rear disk brakes, rear posi, and a manual tranny. Just with a blown up 305 sitting under a four barrel carburetor. Since that is so specific though, i didn't think i would actually get it.
I am suposed to go look more tonight, but they aint given me a call. Pisses me off. |

Im afraid that I dont quiet understand what you said, but because 85 was the first year of ground effects, and 86 was the last year of Carburetors... |

All Z/28's have had GFX since 1982. They made some changes to them in 85, and then again to just the GFX in 90/91. And finally the High Rise spoiler on 91/92 Z/28's only.
1988 Was the first year ALL camaros came with GFX and a spoiler.
Brandon's right....87 was the last for the LG4 (basic carbed 305). 86 I think was the last year for the L69 (hi-output 305)
all the 86+ cars have electric cooling fans, and power hatch pull down units.
I dunno your feelings on GFX (as in have them, or not) but If I were building a dedicated race car, I'd look for a 82-85 V8 sport coupe, or a Berlinetta. _________________

If it's any consolation... I've seen 82s to 92s at the race track. 90% with GFX and Spoilers.
Pick the look YOU want.... and then scrub weight and add power! |

| Lol, I want GFX, but if this 84 works out, I think I'll just add them later. That is so far down on my priority list. First, get the engine! |

First get the car.
Then build the platform.
THEN get the engine. |

| Lol. Im getting Bud started on the engine next week, then however long it takes him to build my Stroker, thats the time I will take to get the platform ready. Rip out the interior, rattle can it, then Im thinking something like a Hemi Orange, but a little red-er, with black GFX, Black headlight buckets, and two black racing stripes. |

Well, the 84 turned out to be a V6, so forget it, but now I found the car to build on!
http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/car/424773323.html
It has minor GFX damage, but he said that was because of a slow Icy-Road + ditch oops.
$900 is more than I had wanted to spend, and 270k+ miles is alot just for the chasis. 85 Z28, it should have a posi and four wheel disks, right? |

No. You'd be suprised what the "bare bones" Z/28 rolled out with that year.
I had a black Z/28, same year (1985), Carburated 305 with a 5 speed that was a 3.23 open drum rear. hell, it didn't even have rear defrost, or any power ammenities (windows, locks, hatch release)
Right now I'd just aim for a straight chassis since you're gonna build the motor anyways. Even if its an auto, swapping a 5 speed in one of these isn't that tough.
I'd see if he'll take $650 for it. _________________

| Is it true that even carbed Camaros have a computer, with o2 sensors? Is it also true that if you dont upgrade your chip when you do an engine swap then the computer will get all kinds of error codes? |

The LG4 powered thirdgens have a computer.
It depends on what engine you swap in and what you do with it. Maybe not error codes, but improper fueling. |

i don't see why you would leave the computer in the car actualy. pull the computer out. all it does is control the carburetor. these cars had an automatically adjusting carburetor (computor command control CCC) that most people get rid of when doing engine swaps. you can replace it with a manual (normal) carb with ease. or buy an aftermarket engine computer and run EFI.
the only reason you would need a computer in a carbureted car is to control an electrnically controlled trannsmission (4L60E) or to controll an electrical tourque converter lock up (700R4). and those are both automatic transsmissions. if you are going manual trannsmission you are all set. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

you also forget that the computer adjusts the timing curve on the distributor. _________________
