| the FMU will function the same for turbo's or supercharges, it raises the fuel pressure by a ratio to the boost pressure. Its an OK system, not ideal IMHO, but on a carbed setup, you don't have any choice but to run a blowthrough carb, and raise the pressure enough to fill the bowls. |

Is that all you have to do? But that would only work with no-return fuel systems....
Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a rising fuel rate fuel pressure regulator instead? |

Yes, you could just get an adjustable FMU from someone like Vortec. I dont' know the price on the aeromotive unit, so I can't say which would be cheaper.
Just for the record, I don't like the FMU being the only way to control fueling under boost. I would much rather have a computer capable of reading 2bar, so that you can have better control over timing and fueling under boost. If you go this route, all you can do is use the FMU, and then get something like the MSD BMT to pull timing based on boost levels.
For a blow-through carb setup, this is about your only option, but on a FI car, I would much rather do it the right way.

well the msd boost timing only controls the retard on a lock out dizzy under boost. On the aeromotive fuel pressure reg it reads the boost signal to mantain a constand 5 to 7 psi of fuel over the boost for example on a non boosted carb or at idle on a boosted carb your psi runs around 5 to 7 psi now with an added boost lets say your running 10 psi of boost your fuel will be at 16 psi just to keep the fuel being pushed back into the tank and it is proportional to the psi levels and it does have a return it acts like an efi reg. the factory reg can't read boost cuz it can only read vacuum. Now the 2 bar map(turbo sunbird 4 banger) up to 15 psi of boost and/or (turbo T/A, typhoon, cyclone, and GN's family)3 bar map up to 44 psi of boost only senses boost for factory fuel curve and electronic timing on efi. don't get me wrong but efi does run more perfectly than a blow through setup.
If your curious how the system work check this forum out first. http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/index.php |
