Well, I was cruisin on craigslist last night.. and come across an ad for a 72 pickup cab. IN LONGVIEW!! So off I go today and got it, and better yet.. it's almost rust free(some in the floor weatherstrip channel), it's a 72 cheyenne cab, and it was $100!!!  Now i've got yet another project. Swap cabs and repaint the longbed!!

| Always meant to keep this one. It's the stepper thats goin away when its done. As for the painting, I think that I'll use single stage paint again this time. Much cheaper and less work. |

was the stepside the one that needed a new cab?
I saw you had a black 71? out in the field with a 4 speed in it? Looked like it wasn't in too bad of shape, but I didn't get a close enough look.

| the blue truck with the cab in back is the one that needs the cab. The black truck is my brothers and it basically needs everything. |

Picked up another piece for the blue truck tonight.
Local guy decided to go with a billet grille. This one is only a few months old. Got it for less then 1/2 price! $250 |

My dad bought a 67 LWB strait 6, 3tree, drum a week ago. Thing is quite interesting to drive. Were very slowly going to put it back to orginal.

| How do you keep the VIN straight when you swap cabs like that? Go off of the frame? |

Well, umm.. shhh.. You see on these trucks the vin is on the cab in only 2 places. One is the vin plate which is riveted to the door frame. You need rosette rivets to do that properly.. which are illegal to buy, but you still can find them. The other place is the glove box door, which just unbolts. There are several places on the frame that also have the vin. My frame, plate, and glove box door all match..
I'll have to say that nearly every nice truck like these you find.. they're almost all mutts. If you really know what you're looking at you can tell that they're not original, but most would never know it. This truck is allready almost completly replaced. The ONLY original parts left on it currently are the frame rails themselves(not including the suspension), the cab, and the speedo/fuel gauge. Every single other part has come off another truck. The rest of the body is off a 72, the engines an 80, the tranny's an 86, the rear is a 69, the suspension is mostly 72 or aftermarket, driveline is 71, the titles a 70 etc.
My 67 shortbed is the same way, its titled as a 70 gmc, has 74 running gear and motor, 67 cab, 68 grille, 70 fenders with the markers welded shut, 68 bed etc.
A guy I work with has a nice "72".. vin matches 72 etc.. except the truck is a 4x4 and vin is a C vin(2wd). Also the cab has a hand parking brake which was 67-8 only.
Another guy I know just sold a "72" stepside. Only problem there it had drum brakes and 6 lug wheels. 71-2 were all 5 lug and disc brake.
Luckily the truck guys arent nearly as anal about #s matching as the car people. If the truck's nice thats all they care about.
I bought the body from a cop.. who said dont try to get a title.. lol |

Thats nice, that is what i like about all you guys, just care that the car looks good and drives well. I took my old 68 triumph GT6 to a British show and they all picked it apart, poked fun, and turned their backs cuz it wasn't "all original" ticked me off cuz mine was one of the best looking ones there.

at the all pontiac show we all hit last year (the one where the redsled took a trophy) i was showing a guy my GTA in the parking lot (i did not enter the show) and two other guys walk up and start picking my GTA to pieces. I WAS NOT EVEN IN THE SHOW!! after this dude lists about 6 reasons my car is not a real GTA i inform him that:
A. he is wrong and i have PHS docs to prove it.
B. he missed two other unoriginal things about the car, he failed to notice the silver Pontiac badge and the roof console (82-87 only)
i love seeing an all original car, but half the fun of this hobby is taking something and making it your own. if i saw Jake's car in a parking lot i would KNOW it was his, because it is unique. (and supper bad-ass) same with most of us, we have "custom" cars. my white one being a noteworthy exception. it appears to be a bone stock 85 firebird from the outside.
i hope i get to make it up to the northern gathering this year Jake, i can't wait to see your car in person. it has come a long way, and fast. i am amazed at how much you have done in the year you have been posting on here.
