I have an annoying ticking sound coming from my valve train (I think). Barely audible from outside the car but distinct while inside the car driving and follows the revs. I've set valve lash both ways now, eng off and eng running and still can't get it to go away. I'm thinking of replacing the stock lifters next, cause the cam I have is rather aggressive but, I dont want to keep throwing money at it with no resolution. All of my rockers sound louder than normal, half of them have a distinct ticking when I put a stethoscope to them but only one is actually annoying me. Problem is, I can't determine the culprit.

Any one have any advice? It's pissing me off so bad I havent even taken it out to tune since I replaced the intake gaskets and the new injectors.

Does it change with oil pressure or when the engine is hot or cold?

Nope, it doesn't change with oil PSI or temp. It's always been there since the rebuild a few years back but it's just annoying and I think it's getting louder.

I originally thought it was loud injectors but I just changed them and it's still there. I verified the pushrods aren't hitting the intake bolts, aligned all the pushrod guideplates to straighten out the rockers on the valve tips, changed injectors and now, runnning out of options. Confused

Just a shot in the dark here but its not a leaking header gasket or a exhaust manifold gasket is it. They can have a ticking like sound to them. Just thought I'd say that since you say your running out of options.

My rockers are: CCA-63-1302-16 Comp Cams 1.6” Pro Magnum Roller Rockers -3/8” Non Self Aligning - Cam is 230/236 w/.544/.555 lift

It's definately not an exhaust leak and yeah I have to agree, my valvetrain is rather loud too. Guess i'll get back out there and dig into it more tomorrow. Stethoscope around my neck!

I think I KNOW what is going on. This happed to me recelty. I lashed my valves on the passenger side due to a "ticking valve". a day later...ticking was back! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Evil or Very Mad

I realized the cheap rocker arm nuts had lost thier ability to hold the tension of the rocker arm. I went up to the auto store, purchaesed all new rocker arm bolts...problem solved! What a PITA!

Yeah, those ball style lock nuts definately suck and shouldn't be reused. Mine have the posi locks though so, that isn't the case here. I haven't had a chance to get to it, been helping my boy with his Honda! And that's a completely different animal for me!
