hello all,
i don't think i've posted before, just been peeking in from time to time. i met a handful of you at Java hut last summer, I have the Black 82 Trans AM with the sidepipes. i am currently in the process of sanding and all that fun stuff getting ready for paint and was thinking about my hood.
i have the hood with the off center lump thing and was thinking of a change, the hood isn't in the greatest of shape and i am not really a big fan of the whole off center scoop part. my question is what are my options for hood scoops, i haven't been into trans am's for very long and simply don't know where to locate parts around me. who makes a cowl scoop or an entire hood for that matter? what other kind scoops do you guys have out there? if i'm going to be putting a hood together, obviously i'm going to have to get a standard hood without the lump in it so does anyone in the vancouver area have a plane jane hood lying around? _________________ -Andrew Smit-

www.ramairhoods.com offers their style hood,
as well, thunderracing.com has a few hood choices to choose from.
http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog/?action=vshop&vid=6&pcid=123 is a direct link to their choices I believe.
If you want to take a plain jane hood, and mold in a scoop then summitracing has more than a few "mold-in" scoops for you to choose from. Personally the mold-in's if not done properly (which ends up taking a ton of time, even when you know what you're doing) can easily be seen as cheap knock-offs of real, fully molded hood. Just depends on your budget.
I'm sure that others will chime in with more hoods and opinions, this should help to get things started . |

Hey Andrew, good to see you posting up on the boards. Bob got you started pretty good there. Here are a few other links:
http://www.americansportscardesigns.com/firebird.shtml
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=108
The options for firebirds are typically the power bulge (the one that you have now), the trans am hood which has vents and hood extractors, the ram air I, ram air II (there are 2 or 3 variations), there are a few different size straight cowls and I see hawks now has a 'super duty' hood that looks like the Z28 camaro scoop.
Good luck on your search. I am sure that others will chime in.

Welcome to the boards. nothing to realy add on the hood. the rest of the guys have given you plenty of options.
but I'd be willing to take that silly old T/A hood off your hands. |

well this certainly answers my question of options. i have a feeling i will be painting my hood for now and pick up something else later. once i do work something else out my old hood will be up for grabs but part of the reason i want another hood is that there is quite a bit of rust on the underside. not on the actual sheet metal on the surface but the stamped support stuff on the underside. i can fix what i see but unless i get all the rust out it's just going to creep out of the cracks and seams and become a headache later. _________________ -Andrew Smit-
