I figured I would try to scan off that article I dug up about top speed running in the third gen and how this guy was able to hit 184 with only 345 HP and the tips and tricks he did to get there. I know we were all talkin about this over breakfast @ the dyno meet.

Looks like a whole lot of fun to me! Smile

Awsome thanks. Notice the curve on the rear-diffuser, just like we were talking about.

Guess tony was wrong about the Pontiacs factory wing not working for down force. Maybe he only meant his v-6 bird?

awesome article.

looks like you cut off the last page though... the "-CHP" indicating the end of the article on the left of the last images has a bunch of text that goes off the left hand side.

EDIT* that was EXACTLY the wing i was referring too as the only firbird factory wing that provides down force. the aero-wing

I thought you had mentioned that wing as it was a functional one I couldn't remember.

hummm... well, even i don't remember most of what i say Very Happy

for the record:
the base model firebird wing, like that on my 2.8 AND on my GTA (it has a base wing Sad ) do not do much in the way or aerodynamics.

i read somwhere that the "Aero wing" or "wrap around" was the only downforce functional wing put on a 3rd generation firebird. weather or not that includes the 86 model year wrap-around wings i do not know.

i'll try and find the article.

EDIT* bah... the internet is useless. i did find out that an 83 T/A has a coefficient of Drag that is a .31. the c6 vette has a .28. not to shabby. Smile

ah hell lets just make it an even 0-200-0 race lol now that would be a kick in the ass. Although I like to stay going at a fast speed to much so i would not want to just hit the brakes....
Cool

well i found something. i think this was the car i was thinking of. i remember reading an in-depth article about somthing like this once.

Quote:
Running on nothing but straight gasoline, this Banks twin-turbocharged Firebird scorches the Salt at 287 mph to become the new World's Fastest Passenger Car. Despite dozens of challenges, Banks 'Bird held the title for 10 years.
-regarding a " stock bodied door slammer" 1987 Pontiac Trans Am.

this same guy held the record for worlds fastest motor home for a while too. 98 MPH Laughing

HEY!!! Evil or Very Mad lol Yea he had a twin Turboed V-10 powered chinook and he couldn't even get over 98 miles an hour with it. We did it all N/A with good ol Chevrolet power.

In all fairness though, the elevation of the salt flats is in excess of over 6k feet so things tend to not run right and there is a lot of tuning involved when you get there to get things dialed.

lol I know I was only kidding. Very Happy

Im just saying that in all fairness I am really surprised that banks didn;t run as fast as he did since he had all the money invested into that motorhome. I know it ran a lot faster in testing but once they got the the salt it didn't run how they expected it to.

There are several things that we will be doing this year to go faster. I gotta help better the previous record so they dont think im a waste lol!
