Is it possible to use the electric pump in the tank for a carburetor? Or do you have to take it out and use a pickup that doesnt have a pump in it?

No. The pump for TBI is intended for low pressure, but it needs the return. It would build up too much pressure it dead headed into the carborator.

I've heard of people leaving the fuel pump unpowered and then having the mechanical pump suck through the intake pump. You may want to try that, pulling the tank out sucks. But if you do want to pull the tank, you should replace the fuel pickup with a carborated fuel pickup that doesn't have the fuel pump provisions.

You can install a return type regulator and use the electric pump. Some have been using a mechanical pump and sucking through it. I would think it would be a restriction though. Also the return line can be used for a pickup.. but its a fairly small line.
