Well school's out until after new years so I can really catch up on some things. Hehe still haven't tucked away all the wiring for the battery relocation yet, plus made a few things and acquired some new parts.
Some of you remember that "cute" little 1.5" reciever with the big MOPAR sticker hanging way below the factory bumper. Factory bumper can be seen here:
Took care of that:
I built me a set of bumpers with a 2" reciever hitch and some D rings.
And since I think the car was feeling neglected (and my basis for this is that while idling to mix the new antifreeze around, the engine died. Wouldn't start. Few min later started fine. Idle for 5min and died...) I picked up some parts for her.:
Little weathered, but I think they'll shine up nicely! Now if I can only figure out how these things go together and what these little pins with c-clips are for.... lol!
Oh yeah, and I rebuilt a buddies Ford 289 and helped him put it back in today. Runs like a raped ape!

The pins and c-clips hold the caliper in the carrier. You can look at mine if you need.
Do you have the brackets from Ed yet? I'm ready to put those on, whenever you say so. |

Don't have the brackets yet. Need to get those and get the hubs machine turned. I wonder if just grinding them down and filing them to approximations will be fine. If it's anything like the rear axle flanges, they aren't true anyway!
Need to pick up bearings after that and then have the rotors turned. I might be able to get them cleaned up with mild abraisives and just run the old pads for a while to see how she does.
And studs. I think stock length will give me 1/2" engagement. |

Just get over your fancy lug-nuts, and get the long ARP studs. They are sexy with the zinc coating on them. |

LOL
Do your calipers say corvette on them? Mine don't... and on the side w/o the pistons... there are 2 holes where the pad mates against that you can see right through.
PS send me ed miller's contact info and I'll get those brackets ordered and have him verify my parts! |

Mine don't say corvette either.
Those two holes are how mine are, on the back of your bads, you should have some retaining tabs, those stick thru those holes.
I can IM ed next time I see him online, and get that. YOu could try PM's on TGO. IIRC his AOL name is like ebmiller88, I can verify for you when I get home tonight. |

Very nice work on the bumpers Paul, I'm impressed.
I'll buy the beer if you want to bring them hubs down here and we can turn them on the lathe. |

Nice work on the bumpers paul! I'll have to come by sometime and have a closer look!
Just took my last final today! I'm seeing about transfering my credits to a school up here. Paying rent and for groceries leaves me little money left over for much else.
Did that 289 require any machine work on the mains, bores or cam valley? (last time I was over you said the cam bearings needed replaced).
I thing Santa might bring me a Millermatic 175
but he did say that I'd "burn my eyes out" and suggested a nice "football" instead. _________________

Hehe don't think it'll get an exo till the warrenty runs out
Thanks for the complements guys!
Chris, the 289 got new cam bearings. The cam had no grooves at all. No machining of the mains or anything because he didn't have the money and the block was cracked. Had a crack about 5" long on the outside into the water jackets. I ground the crack down, filled it with nickel rod, then ran some "made for engine blocks" jb weld stuff over the top. Once we found out the block was cracked wasn't alot of use putting lots of money he didn't have into it.
Thanks Rod. Still debating about that drive lol Prolly have to take the Jeep cause of the passes and I don't have chains for it yet. |

oooh...cracked block is no bueno!
Nickel rod eh? Don't know much about metalurgy, but does it have a higher heat resistance on nodular iron like that over bronze? Only did a couple weeks of brazing with bronze in class on structural iron. Did you fix it at home or school? Those generic 289 blocks didn't have a high nickle/tin casting mix. The mexican blocks and the Hi-po blocks had a better casting mix. No matter though. If it runs ok, doesn't leak and he's happy with it, its all that matters!! _________________

Heheh that sounds like alot of fun rod!
Nickel rod is a softer metal so in the heating/cooling of cast iron it expands and contracts with the metal so it doesn't crack.
I used a stick electrode on the school's machine. |
