According to my Chilton's wiring diagram this should be a Fan Relay. I'm thinking of deleting my electric cooling fan since I haven't been able to get it to work and going with a clutch type fan.

anyone have any input on this?

I guess Boredom is setting in, so I'm trying to do a bunch of "free mods" like deleting 'unnecessary' things out of my engine bay.

Might also get rid of the window wash reservoir and the lines to it.

Looks like this from a pic i found on year one: mass air sensor burnoff module ... probably has something to do with the electric fan. btw, why are you going to a clutch fan? I converted from a clutch fan to an electric (with a manual switch). I think it improves perfomance and looks better...imo.

well...I've been chasing this problem down and I haven't been able to tackle it, its not the fuse...i can't see any breaks or holes in the wiring...the only thing I can think is it used to run off the ECM...and I don't have an ECM anymore, so I'm not sure. As far as I can tell the fan shouldbe getting power. I don't know what temp it was set to kick in at, but even around 210-220 it wasn't coming on.

Is there an in-tank pump on the LG4? I have a 350 out of an earlier car in there and its got a mechanical pump on the block..

I think only the 87 LG4 had an electric intank and a mechanical fuel pump. The earlier ones just had the mechanical pumps.

For $20 -$30 you can buy a fan control that comes with a relay and a little temp sensor that goes in the radiator. Just wire up to 12 volts, ground, and splice into the wire to the fan. Easy to hook up and even adjustable for what temp you want the fan to come on. That's how mine is wired up.

I wouldn't ditch the electric for a mechanical fan, is kind of a step backwards. Shrug

That is the fan relay. The electric fuel pump relay would be to the right (or left as you're looking at that pic) of that if you had one.

Go get yourself one of these.

This is the back of the sensor, it just slides through the radiator fins.

I snagged mine out of a parts car, but I was told that you can just get them at Schmucks.
